West Spring Primary
-
I’ve been quietly following this very interesting and active forum since it was set up. I’m so excited to have a new school in Bukit Panjang that will offer our children a well-balanced education through play-based learning. That is now what is done at kindergartens and so it’s good to see a natural flow of this into the primary school transition than to do just boring textbook teaching or computer learning all the time. My neighbour has a child in a school which focuses a lot of learning through computers in the school. Now her child is addicted to computers everyday and also bad for eye sight.
I’ve read a lot of research done on the need to engage children in meaningful play to help build their confidence level, self esteem and get them interested in studying the subject through play based learning. Very effective. So, I was so glad to hear that there’ll be a school in Bukit Panjang that will focus on play-based learning. If children from young hate studying from young and not interested, they’ll not like going to school and next time PSLE problem.
I was one of the kiasu parents at the chat session on Sunday.Very good impression of the experienced school leaders who come from schools with very good programmes.I heard the principal designate of West Spring Primary who’s now the principal of Yangzheng Primary , her school so popular must go through balloting every year because of the good and experienced teachers she recruited and the good programmes and results of the pupils ever since she took over the school 5 years ago. She said at the chat that her team of permanent teachers recruited for west Spring are from good schools and even SAP schools. I’m so glad to hear this because very important to have stable, good , experienced and committed teachers.
My child only due for P1 in 2016.But I’ve already made up my mind to enrol her in West Spring. Good luck to all parents at Phase 2C for West Spring. You’re the lucky ones to work with the school as the pioneer batch of parents to make West Spring a good school in Bukit Panjang. -
Like many others, I too have been a silent reader ever since this forum set up. Very informative. My son is only 4 years old now but I very kiasu and so start to try to know about primary school now. I also happen to have a relative teaching at the school where the principal designate is now the principal of that school and will be the principal of west spring from next year.So I kpo a bit to try to find out more. My relative said that ever since this principal took over Yangzheng Primary, the school went up and became very popular in Serangoon. The school is noted to have good school discipline. So one parent in this forum talk about importance of discipline.Well, this new principal is very into discipline of children because my relative said that the principal feels that there must be discipline before learning can take place. So I’m sure West Spring pupils will be instilled discipline from young age which I personally feel is very important.Nowadays, many children not well-disciplined at all. Some even very spoilt.
My relative also said the principal focuses a lot on character development.Every Wednesday in the school hall, the principal can talk for 30 minutes to pupils try to inspire them.So many pupils love the school very much and many of them after leaving the school come back to visit and help out. My relative say the principal emphasizes on this Chinese word (my Chinese not good so I can’t remember the words) about being grateful and showing gratitude.
I also read the school leaders profiles in the school website and like it that they are open door policy and have good relationships with parents.I think I can see that already through the organizing of the chat session I saw on the website.I think next year I must attend the chat session for my boy.
I hope my contribution will give other parents in this forum more ideas about West Spring. I look forward to meeting all of you when I too become a member of West Spring in a few years time. -
Wow!
Many parents interested to put their kids in West Spring.
My husband and I are beginning to worry now as our home address is more than 2km. We attended chat session last Sunday and managed to speak to the Principal concerning our son chances of getting into the school successfully. Although, there are 209 vacancies left but we still hopping that there is a chance for my son because this is the 1st year and the 2nd Phase opening registration exercise for West Spring. Unlike for next year, we strongly feel that the no of vacancies left at Phase 2C is fewer due to there will be Phase 1, Phase 2A2 and 2B (earlier phases). Therefore, the chances for parents in Phase 2C will be very slim.
We really like the programmes planned by Mrs Jacinta Lim. Listening to her sayings on that day, we believe that she is a very good Principal who will bring many successes to this school all-rounded …that’s why I am very interested!
To all parents, we wish good luck and hope to see many parents at Beacon Pr Sch, the registration centre for West Spring Pr. -
my concern is how you treat the students, to me they are the most impt ppl in the school. Cause they are the one who do you proud for your school.
I seem some teacher doesn’t even care about the student, they give comment "let them settle themself", instead of making sure they are safe as not all kids are independent enough.
They are just planning to rush home every day, instead the "I can do" enthusiasm
Maybe I can only find these teachers in my primary school days, nowadays young teacher so diff. -
Me too!
I am getting excited on the P1 registration fever although my son is not yet ready for P1 next year. He is born in 2009 and can only be admitted into P1 in year 2016. I wonder how can I be eligible for Phase 2B for a child whose parent has joined as a parent volunteer at West Spring Pr.
Will there be a form for me to fill in or should I call the school to register myself as I am totally new to this kinda thingy?
Which year should I join as a parent volunteer because I will register him in 2015?
Thank you in advance! -
I agree with you that it is important to have dedicated & caring teachers. That’s why I am so glad to hear that West Spring will hand pick the best teachers for the P1s next year!
My relative told me the principal chooses her teachers one.
And many parents always write letters to commend her teachers for being so caring to pupils. Every year, her school gives out awards to their caring teachers to keep up the good work with their pupils! She is an Inspiring Leader who leads by examples!
So, parents should not worry on the qualities of her staff.

Will be registering my daughter on the 30 Jul which is also her birthday. I think this is the best birthday gift I can give to her. Really impress with West
Spring Primary. See the rest of you all at Beacon Primary School. -
Julia Watts:
Thanks Julia,2 more days! So excited.
First time doing registration but once I secure West Spring, my 2nd child secure place in West Spring when his turn to go Pri 1. So very worth it. Next year Pri 1 registration, West Spring sure have phase 1 & 2B some more. Stiff competition!
My sister in law actually registered her child under 2B in school in Choa Chu Kang for next year but now thinking of sending her girl to West Spring so that she and my girl in same school studying together. She also like the play base approach in getting children to enjoy learning through experience. I think they will also remember better. I looked through the updated FAQs and find that the school cares for children as got homework policy to make sure children dont get overloaded with too much work at young age. I see one of my neighbour's child everyday so much homework, only get to sleep at 10pm, he is only in P3! Everytime I see him, he looks so sleepy as I think not enough sleep. Thank goodness West Spring teachers will also help to keep some books in class cupboards so that school bag not too heavy.
Thank you West Spring for caring our childern's welfare.
Thumbs up!
You just gave me 2 more points....
Haven't read the forum for some time. Tot I took a look before registering on Tues. Surprised to see so many discussions about the new West Spring. I have decided also to join West Spring, I think many will agree with me:
1. So far, 209 places left. That would mean the 1km have high chances.
2. New buildings, new facilities. While many schools upgrade the next few years, this West Spring is ready.
3. Principal has good track records. Come from good school.
4. Teachers selected from other good schools. Not new teachers who not experienced.
5. 210 Primary 1 pupils. My child gets all the attention.
6. Response time. The school responds very fast, both on feedback through phone and emails.
7. Parent engagement. Many of us went for chat session. School is very approachable and engaging.
8. I also saw Phase 2b, not PV yet. Must be grassroots leader signed up. They might have some information good about the school. Good indication also.
9. Play-based Learning. Link form kindergarten.
10. Homework policy.
10 reasons to queue up at Beacon on Tues.
