Induk said their ratio of trainer to students is rather small like 1:10.The fee I heardnis $140/mth.CC is very big group in which about 30 to 40 students.Fee quite affordable like $$45 for a term.
Exactly, but here is also something else, smaller group are more focus so they will likely attend and pass grading every 3 months, those in CC like B Batok East, that regular coach could have no time to coach your kids due to big class, end up grading every 6 to 9 months instead of 3, which means more revenue to them. So they think why not?
But if you could find a CC with lesser students and regular coach whose main aim is to help student get those belts on a regular basis, go to Bukit Timah CC. It is cheap, still under STF, the coach is a down to earth guy who will not ask your kids to buy unnecessary equipments, unlike Bukit Batok East CC.
For those who just wanna do TKD as a sport but not martial art, by all means read above would help. -
peasants:
Like that which TKD school would you recommend? :?:
For Induk, I give you this analogy, consider STF as NTUC, Induk and other Korean club as NTUC Finest, those clubs at CC as NTUC Fairprice, and clubs at RC as Cheers 24hrs. They are each different in price, ambience, operations, but they are still reporting to NTUC at One Marina or rather STF.
White belt to yellow tip grading is still 3 step skipping and turningkicks forward/backward. Any school under STF should suffice, unless you needed fancy waiting areas.
My opinion is not towards best TKD training school, but rather of a school not within the commercial franchise mentioned above. If those Korean coaches aren't tied down by STF, then it will be worth to consider. I know of one Korean school did just that and is banned!
Oh, TKD is always a sport as long as the schools are under
STF. For me, I want my daughters to learn TKD in original
martial art form, therefore Singapore TKD Academy (ITF) is the
one they go to for now.
errr...sorli so chim for me. So you mean Induk is a franchise? -

Imo, yes, a franchise of STF, a high class one too. -
Any good Taekwondo Studio to recommend in the Yio CHu kang or Ang Mo Kio area>

Hi Peasant,
So what are the main differences between ITF & STF? It seem like most schools belong to STF & also the high class ones. :rahrah: -
I heard there some childcares that offer lessons as enrichments. is this true? any info to share?

Main diff is ITF uses both hands and legs movement in balanceHi Peasant,
So what are the main differences between ITF & STF? It seem like most schools belong to STF & also the high class ones. :rahrah:
ratio, WTF focus 90% on legs movements. Competition between
ITF and WTF is always using WTF rules, cos ITF allows
hitting on face, head where WTF dun allow.
STF is backed up by PA, MCCY and Sports
Council. Clubs using STF to gain recognition
are common. I dun like the way STF claiming
they are the only recognised society for TKD.
That is discrimination. One hv to be in their
organisation long enough to open worm cans. -
tkd helps my child to focus and improve on the movement
it not only help physically but mentally
also help to protect oneself of any attack. once a bigger sized bully tried attack my child using badminton racker. my child was able to block the attack, make the bigger sized bully down on the ground, sit on the big bully, hold the arms and shouted for help. w/o knowing all these steps, my child might be badly beaten up -

My 4 year old son learns at a class for younger kids. The instructor's very good, esp. with kids. I'd recommend very much.hi all, i saw this school at upper thomson road. is this a new school?

is there a fixed routine?
White belt to yellow tip grading is still 3 step skipping and turningkicks forward/backward. Any school under STF should suffice, unless you needed fancy waiting areas.
my younger boy is going for yellow tip grading soon and what he needs to do is hardly what you stated above. all he needs to know are a few commands and kicks with 2 legs one direction while 'bobbing around'.
even my husband is surprised. he has not heard of coloured-tip grading as he had been getting solid coloured belts when he did TKD in his time (he said need to know a series of steps to clear) - is it a different system? -
jedamum:
My hb was equally surprised when he signed up for my son last yr. His time was solid coloured belts as well. Time has changed.

With this change, they probably earn more as every 3months or so, there is a grading test, so we pay more then. -

husband got his black in middle primary. he is not for accelerating (he said for fitness purpose only what) and said no need to pay for upmarket facilities to learn TKD - he was with community club. you see, i wanted to switch son to a setup with smaller group for better techniques (higher fees too la).
he still remembers part of his routine after so long...and once in a while will do them to our amusement (upon request) - creaking bones and all! -
jedamum:
Well I think these days even the ones at CC are also on par with the upmarket centres right. They have to earn in \"tips\" stages.

Ya, the 2 legs one direction while bobbing around is what they called \"sports\" grading. This is a close one eye grading just to pass the 1st stage, a morale boaster for kids and parents alike.
Earn more money of cos, kids outgrown very fast, uniform not cheap, if your kids resides on certain CC, about 3 of them, you will be asked to buy headgear, gum guard, arm guard, gloves, body guard, shin guard and feet wrap. -

You mention wanted better techniques, WTF only include pattern training from green tip test onwards, ITF started pattern training from YELLOW TIP onwards. -
Hi peasants,
I did saw some kids with big bag of gears during the grading.
Husband said he only bought a kicking board thingy last time,no gears.
We were also not allowed to view the grading process. -

out why some are geared while some are not.
Of cos looks good to be fully geared like
Transformers robots. I am sure some CC dun
buy that, depending who is the PA Trainer. Not
allow to view grading process is rubbish. Again u
hv to see is it becos they held it in a small ballet
air con room, or MPH. Mostly becos of logistics reason,
I cannot think of others. -

Hi hi, thought I should point out this website to you regarding how the grading tests are done as stipulated by the stf - http://www.stf.sg/modules/guide/grading_req.phpHi peasants,
I did saw some kids with big bag of gears during the grading.
Husband said he only bought a kicking board thingy last time,no gears.
We were also not allowed to view the grading process.
As far as I understand, for each grading test ( the solid belts as well as the tipped belts), one has to demonstrate a set of pattern/poomsae (1 time) as well as a set of kick(s) (3 times forward & 3 times backward). When one reaches green belt & beyond, the grading test includes sparring. During sparring, it is compulsory to wear protective gear such as groin guard, helmet for the head, body/arms/legs guards etc, for safety sake.
In the red belt grading, the test includes 4 sets of pattern, red & the 3 previous patterns (ie red-tipped, blue & blue-tipped), instead of just 1. So one might need more time to prepare for this test than the lower belted ones.
In the black-tipped grading, again 4 sets of patterns are required (black-tipped to blue). It also includes an interview conducted by the examiner, on top of the kicking & sparring. This interview is for all gradings from black-tipped belts onwards - http://www.stf.sg/modules/news/article.php?storyid=567. These are the potential questions asked - http://www.stf.sg/uploads/ca9c09f0-0cc7-e574.pdf
After passing this, one will achieve the junior black belt. (& there are more levels to go through in the black belt )
As for whether you can view the grading process, I guess that depends on the facilities of the club/school you are with. Some training are conducted in walled rooms, so probably you cannot peek in. Some are in glass rooms, so obviously you can see what is going on
Hey, I'm pretty sure your ds2 had no problem with his grading test. Cheers! :rahrah: :rahrah: -

Hey, I'm pretty sure your ds2 had no problem with his grading test. Cheers! :rahrah: :rahrah:
I take the website info as a pinch of salt. Best take it from someone who went thru it, or better still, go see the grading process better. The website have dates for centralise gradings for colored and black belt, in CCs and TPY Sports Hall.
edited with additional notes;
I still suggest the best way to understand TKD under STF is to go see those centralised grading in TPY sports hall, go in the morning and observe the grading from yellow tip to black tip. it takes whole day, but you will know what your kids are training for.
