But I'm also impressed by CHIJ's strong reputation in English & getting the girls to communicate well. I do think this is an important skill as they grow older and move into the outside world..any sort of brilliance will be limited if they cannot communicate their ideas to others.

I hear it from a P from child care centre abt their diff hahaha.....

Yes, English is impt but my girls speak English at home and anywhere only speak mandarin to their grandparents or old folks they meet. Thus I think is not so much of a worry and my girls are relative independent and confident when they speak and handle task.

I guess I will have to pray and ask God for direction. My hubby wanted CHIJ due to affiliation to the sec school but I personally didn't like KC due to the reputation of the school of how the girls behave.

I went to HGS open house and must admit their school environment is nice and I like how their kids are train to be confident and able to show us their school.

since English is not an issue as your family speak English everyday, then Chinese would be the concern.


however, in other families where they speak Mandarin everyday to parents & grandparents at home, then English would be the concern.

other than language(s) -
if compare Maths and Science - which school, score better ?
Haig Girls or CHIJ Katong convent ?
for this - need to compare PSLE Quality passes over a few years, in detail.
if cannot find 2012 psle results, never mind.
If can find 2010, 2011 - compare each school against National cohort Average standard performance quality passes ( %), will be able to tell.

Actually besides those mentioned, another difference between CHIJ and HGS is CHIJ has affiliation to CHIJ (Katong). Alot of the girls eventually went to CHIJ (Katong) and these girls usually build very strong bond. I was from CHIJ Katong Sec school. I only joined them during sec school. It's amazing to see many of my sec school mates still so close after so many years. They are like sisters. In CHIJ, there are alot of eurasians so the EL standard is pretty good and during my era some notable alumni are Glenda Chong, Samantha Fox who are with Channel News Asia.

But their CL is .... I saw how most of my pals disliked CL and struggled with the language.

kh traditionally ballot those within 1k in p2b.


this year no ballot…in 2b… is there alot more kids within 1k who will be applying in 2c?

will it be more than last years? i have a feeling its a yes… shd i avoid kh n focus o tkps n gmps?

dun want to end up going further to eunos or macpherson if i get ballot out in 2c kh.

Sadly looking at the history, it's only macpherson/eunos/canossa left. Not sure abt tkps this year as i read that they have opened up 1 additional class.

really in a dilemna. kh confirmed balloting though 1km. but gmps also might need to ballot for 1-2km if you look at history. we have more or less decided on kh, but will still see how the numbers go these 3 days.
