I am so upset with the relief teachers. The FT was absent for two days since yesterday. The relief teachers left the class to do their own things for most of the periods. Used only 1 or 2 periods to tell story or do Maths revision. No assignments or real teaching.

I just wrote a complaint email to the FT :x
Does the FT get to choose who to relieve her lessons? If the relief teacher is incompetent, I think should feedback to the school so that they will be more vigilant in their engagement of relief teachers. Most schools have a fixed pool of relief teachers built up over the years so less disruptive for kids to always see unfamiliar faces. I hope your feedback will bring about positive changes cos any of our kids may be the ones encountering this situation in future too!

Let's see how the FT replied to my email first. I thought I should give her a chance to remedy the situation before letting the principal knows about this. Last year my boy also kena some relief teaching (but was an existing sch teacher) who taught and did not let the class waste time making paper balls like my P3 today.

You are right. I am sure if the FT is caring, she will definitely do something about it to prevent similar situation happening to her class again. Hope everything goes well for your boy.

No luck. The school assigns the relief teachers. FT sure do not get to select who relieves them. Anyway, do not be surprised that not all relief teachers are qualified teachers - at least this was what I gathered from a sec. school

teacher. I.e you or me can apply to moe, pass some test and teach.

Anyway, the pricipal did warn us p1 parents that relief teachers will teach for a considerable period throughout their primary education. It’s indeed unsettling to hear of incomp relief teachers.

P2moxie is one short passage(2-3 sentences), copable for my eat potato kid. 😉 The challenging part was the 'surprise' 2-3 phrases(成语,论语,谚语), but tat is depending on which CL tr yr child got, some gives more challenging works than others.

Thanks for the tip. The extras sure seem 'interesting'... Her Chinese teacher is 陈老师,Faith 2 FT last year.

Thanks for sharing. Pls do share what the reply the FT gives. Making paper balls.... :? unless she is doing RT for AC class. I rem once my child brought bk lolipop from school and I was told a RT gave the entire class after asking them to stay quiet and do their own things. I immediately notify FT (I was a PV to oversee the class during their swimming lesson) and he acted right away. Note : not phpps.

The FT has replied, claimed she has left instructions for the relief teacher and also class assignments for the class and that she would investigate the matter.

I am sure not the whole class made paper balls, my boy for sure (since I found so many bits and pieces of paper in his sch bag) and his partner.

My child is K1 next year. So can I do PV this year or must wait until next year to sign up?

                    hi,

I am trying to sign up as a PV in Pei Hwa. Should I write in to the principal? Is the principal still Mrs Foo?

                    Thank you 🙂

Is your child in K1? You could send to Mrs Foo or the generic email. Selection will be done before June. You should get a reply by August. Briefing in September. Application close in May if I am not wrong.

Next year will be too late to sign up because you will need to clock up at least 40 hours by June next year. You need to sign up this year in order to render your service. You have to write in within these couple of months while your child is still in K1. You cannot apply after May cos application to be PV will be closed by then. Selection will take some time to confirm your success as PV. If successful, you will be notified and the briefing will take place in September when you can choose your interested areas of service and start serving till next June. The school will try and accommodate.

Are you staying within 2km? Higher chance of getting chosen as PV. Those staying out of 2km or more may be rejected because for phase 2B, they will be competing with RC members, church affiliations and PVs. The school does not wish to disappoint too many parents. For my daughter's year, there were about 40 PVs but not all registered their kids to PHPPS in the end. However on top of the no of PVs, more than 40 parents who applied at phase 2B were not PVs. There was balloting for my daughter's year for phase 2B for those residing out of 2km.

All the best! You can pm me if you want to know more.

Looks like the relief teacher was \"eating snake\"...so irritating and irresponsible!
