I believed in putting children through some level of stress in order to become strong and excel in society. My personnel experience tells me that, I had an easy primary and secondary school life in a below average neighbour school, I managed to make it to polytechnic and then to NTU, that was the most drastic change in my first year in NTU, the stress level was trendmous. You have to keep up with the fast pace and I was not used to that and totally stress out, while my peers who came from good schools were enjoying uni life. I managed to pull through though but did not have time to enjoy uni activity throughout my university. .. :siam:

My daughter was from kh and she was not in the top 3 best classes. I was the one helping her the most gg thru exam papers with her, ferry her to tuition almost everyday. My friend's daughter who was from a neighborhood school in yishun was from top class, teacher helped the class a lot and she stayed after class for tuition three time a week. With of us got exactly same psle score at 246. Worse still in my daughter's class, a lot got worse than her. So really it depend very much on the parent n the kid, not the school unless ur kids are in the top 3 classes.

Btw my girlfriend's daughter was not from cf. She came from unknown neighborhood school and she was so buzy with school work and did not have time for past yr papers or outside tuition. At the end, both of our daughters went into the same secondary school at the east which is our fifth choice. Both girls were.disappointed for not able to go into their dream school after putting so much efforts as their marks were neither here or there. As for us, we regretted not prepare them for dsa or join a school that is affiliated. Both paths required lesser scores. I have gone thru the hard way to understand the unfairness of this system. So parents do consider this if u are choosing a school for ur kids! Just to share my experience!

Thanks for the pointers, I was also considering primary school with affiliation, but notice there aren't a lot of good ones near my neighbour.

At the end of the day, we feel worse off when my daughter's friend getting 220 can still get into the school the Moe allocated to my girl thru dsa. Why study so hard and pay so much for tuition when this is such easy way? Also, the top 4 choices our girls made have lower cop for affiliated students some of which can be lower by 20 cop. This is really crazy.... the whole process of psle is crazy. Until now thinking of it made me fearful .. the effort is not just kids but parents as well. Really think twice how to strategise the path for kids to prevent the stress.

knowledge is the least important. as they can be acquire from books. sports, social skills, moral, creativity, adventurous, curosity are things which are more important because it need to be learn thru experience. no amount of tuition can make up.

I am not sure ur kids are at upper level but I can say by the time the kids at p5 n p6, there is no time for curiosity or creativity. Many new and challenging concepts esp math come in. We parents cannot help the kids so where do we get help?? For parents who are working, tuition is the only solution. I agreed with what u say, but is it possible do away tuition in spore???

I am now in Melbourne even here Asian parents send kids to tuitions just to get into top public school. My girl got a scholarship in a private school based on what she has achieved in spore. They will nvr consider her w/o all these. We all have to face it, competition is everywhere.

very true. competition are everywhere. if a child is being given the right attitude, it would benefit him for life.

according to experts, many parent sacrifice the most crucial period for social and moral for academic skills. as such a lot of these child ended up with poor social and moral skills. one example, PRC of today.
