Well, like I said, it was science particularly that was the confusion - it had some elements of geography (climate stuff) mixed in it, which is not wrong since climatic phenomena are physics-based. But chapters in normal science books are not organised this way!
Thanks Bryan for the insight.
I am also lost about the syllabus especially if no textbooks. So, how does your son manage ? I also wonder ? Do they have suggested reading list of books ?
Overall, is the course well organized ?
Thanks
Anyway, I could only go through with TS based on the notes he had, and decided that I will run my parallel track of covering science subjects using other text books (I happened to own a full new set of RVHS textbooks; don't ask me why). Hopefully my track and the school's will meet someday. In the short-term, bear with it.
As for the other subjects, I did not detect any chaos... haha. Actually, they were pretty fine since I understood what he was being taught and the teachers were amenable to the students. -

I thought your TS have gone boarding last year ? Was the experience last year good ?
Yeah, boarded (bored) last semester last year, and again this very semester.
Actually I thought Bibi & Baba not to bad. PE attire I also manage to get. The problem this year is the Polo TShirt.Bryan:
Frankly, we had exactly the same problem with the PE attires and Bibi-Baba last year. I thought the school would have learnt a lesson from last year's delays. :stupid:
Maybe you guys can blame us lao-jiao parents who did not feedback last year (buy uniform only one time mah!). I've just spoken to TS* over the phone at boarding school how CMI* NJC was on the first day of school and remind him to \"feedback or live to regret.\" As parents, we should too.
I have my reservations about the ROI of the EBS, but I'd rather that you guys form your own opinions. Then we can discuss on how or whether we can feedback to the school. :celebrate:
The principal says there was a review late last year and there should be changes. It's only been two days, so I can't comment yet. -

You mean the tour for SH ?
a) the organization, or
yes, the way the tour was organised.
they simply told me i was supposed to be in an earlier group without checking the name list and then another person shouted \"no no no\" but the group i was supposed be in has set off with the tour already, and then just said : eh, just join any group and go lah....
b) the quality of student or
i thinks the students who got in are good, based on the cop for JC 1 and the COP of PSLE graduates. but why no scholar in the last 13 years ? that means good students went in did not perform. or in working life terms, it means value destruction, no value add achieved by the school
c) the standard of education or
see above point
I think in 2009 they got 1 scholar. Yes, before that, draught for quite a while. I dunno but is using President's Scholar a correct & accurate yard stick to measure the quality of student & standard of education ?
While their 6 year IP students haven't take A levels yet, what about the A level results of those coming in using O level result ? Is it bad also ?
d) the condition of the buildings ?
definitely looks like a 30 year old building. thought it was built circa 1996 ?
Yeah the buildings looks old liao. The brick fence at the entrance (at top hill) got a crack across it & looks like collapsing !!
But the borading school building looks new -
Bryan:
Thanks, so must concentrate on science lah.

If it is all mixed up with geography, how are they gonna adapt in A level with subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology ... etc ? -

Apparently NJC has a \"SAPPHIRE scholar programme\" that targets, prepares and grooms the potential scholars. You guys might want to inquire on its current efficacy when you next have the chance to engage the principal.quote=\"VitoRelax\"

And yes, the facilities look a bit dated and mouldy, but still functional. Just try not to look across the road to HCI with its clock tower, expanse of space and swimming pool.

Your TS was feeing bored lasy year ? I thought there was supposed to be a series of activities ?
Yeah, boarded (bored) last semester last year, and again this very semester.
The principal says there was a review late last year and there should be changes. It's only been two days, so I can't comment yet.
So, by the time our kids in JH1 this year go boarding, it should be better than your TS's time, right ? -
Bryan:
Or look next to NYGH ...

It IS supposed to be the three segments of Physics, Chemistry & Biology already. The Chem part was pretty ok - I could see the electron and protons.
Thanks, so must concentrate on science lah.

Don't worry la, just hope they spent last year fruitfully (with my Son) to sort things out for your child this year. -
there are 3 schools there side by side
NYGH took over the original location of NJC, and the iconic LT of NJC was gone forever
RGPS occupied the location of former Dunearn Sec School
NJC got pushed to the back to take over the site of former Dunearn Tech
NJC is supposed to be a premier school, but the NEW buildings really need touching up. HCI is older but does not look so bad. If MOE can build NYGH and RGPS with that level of quality, why not NJC ? -
VitoRelax:
NYGH, that one a bit hard to avoid because need to drive pass to reach NJC... haha.
Or look next to NYGH ...Bryan:
