Since 2000, the rise in sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among those under age 20 has been \"especially alarming\", in the words of Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan - doubling from 61 cases per 100,000 in that age group, to 133 in 2008

And 7 in 10 cases involved young adults: Among those under age 20, two-thirds were female, while the opposite was true for those over 20.

what should we do as parents to protect our children?

        would you educate
        - no sex or
        - no casual sex or
        - no unprotected sex?

if you have both boys and girls, would what you teach them be different (according to their gender)?

this is one category where "walk the talk" does not apply.

we have been thru tat stage ourselves and do we really listen?

building family cohesion and instilling of value from young…is the only way how a parent can engage/involve… imho.

            No sex outside of marriage.

I think we should constantly advocate no pre-marital sex & instilling these values from young.

But at what age our kids start experimenting with sex ?

i would like to take this stance, but will be open to \"No sex outside of marriage unless you are mentally/financially prepared to get married or is >25yo whichever is the latter\". 😐

dd1 (8 yo) has personally seen the ups and downs of my pregnancy last year, ever since we told her (from 1st trimester). i don't hide my pains, emotions and joys during those mths from her. now, she gets to experience the 24-hr care of a newborn as well, in full surround sound some more. 😉 considering tt she is more matured than her peers, i'm hoping this will stick with her when she reaches puberty and deter her from \"experimenting\". :xedfingers: we were also quite straightforward when she asks us about the pregnancy so hopefully, she will come to us (instead of some unreliable source) for the facts.

Certain studies have shown that teenagers that engage in sex, particularly of the promiscuous kind, is showing classic behaviour of insecurity. Insecure and unloved (or not enough love) children seek comfort and acknowledgement in sexual partners, and get the affirmation they need.

There’s really no need to talk/lecture so much. Spend more time with your children, hug them and kiss them often and they are more than unlikely to wanna shag someone before they’re married.
