Just curious, how are your DD, DS preparing for P5 SA 2 & PSLE 2014?

Just curious, how are your DD, DS preparing for P5 SA 2 & PSLE 2014?

Personally I feel that what a parent can do is first separate the Math aspect into two parts:
          1. direct
          2. non-direct

The more challenging part is the second one which covers about 12 heuristic concepts, not including other sub-concepts.

So for a child who is finding these questions hard (normally in Paper 2), this is a good time to start working on this.

For example, if your study plan is to cover 1 concept per week (including clear understanding, application and being able to refine and correct those questions which are answered wrongly), it takes about 3 to 4 more months to go through one cycle of it.

So first work on this concept.

Another aspect which may concern some parents...\"what if your child does not like math or even hate this subject?\"

Preparation should include helping the child to enjoy the learning process of math. This must be done before helping the child on the academic aspect because whatever that will be taught may most likely be only half understood or even rejected by these kids who already do not like math.

So help the child in this emotional aspect first and this is what I see that is absent in most learning strategies...

          John

                  Hi jjxymum,
My son went through this crazy journey last year...it still left an unforgettable (more like horrible) memory even after 1 year...it is really bad because PSLE is all about preparation and laying of strong foundation when child enters primary 1. But then no matter how strong, come primary 5, the entire scenario changes.

But I foresee my daughter will have a tough time even before p5. English syllabus is changing. She will sit for her PSLE in 2016.

                      Jjxymum mum,

                      One year break for you.
After 2014, PSLE is going to be a thing of the past for you?
Breathe first…then start serious revision in Nov.

                        Hi Janet ,
Yes, I do remember last year, at this period having Oral paper, i kept practicing oral with DS even though he had home tuition for his languages... Also keep reminding him this and that..saying\" do u still want me to teach you ..or you want me to give up coaching you ..etc..\" :frustrated: finally he get into Express stream through his hardwork 🙂
Next year is DD turn...she is weak in Maths ..quite worried indeed. :imdrowning:
After 2014, no more psle for me 🙂
