More than that.....and thanks!
Oh wow....there's like a 10 year gap between your kids???!!! :udawoman:angell:
We are not that far away from Henry Park but more than 2km.
My DD had to travel for more than one hour to get home from Sec School and about one hour from JC, her results were not affected at all, in fact she did very well....
Well, nice to know your DD is doing well. -

Definitely try henry park at 2a2.Hi Parents,
Seeking some advice here!
My DS will be in P2A2 for Henry Park, under sibling ex-student. We are SC but living more than 2km away so if suay suay cannot get in (which I think the likelihood is very very high); should we register at P2C at Qifa (1 to 2km) or P2C at Alexandra (definitely more than 2 km away). Where do you think we stand a better chance? And should we even consider Henry Park at P2C?
TIA!
Popular schools like henry park would have many others alumni living outside 2km. I am sure there are alumni living outside 10 or 20 km. Even if you need to ballot, you will stand a better chance than those who live 20 km away if you live 10 km away.
But competition will be stiff at 2C if you live more than 2km away. -

Thanks rain, we will definitely try.

Not sure how it works though, if we apply P2A2 at Henry Park and not successful, then we have to fill up another form at another school at P2C? -
angell:
If you apply at P2A2 and is not successful, you have an option of going for Henry Park again at P2C or head for another school.
Thanks rain, we will definitely try.

P2C would be that much tougher going by past year's application numbers. So it all depends on your risk appetite and how much you can stomach the stress of balloting. Assuming you do go for Henry Park at P2C, it's also prudent to start to think of P2CS and alternative (available) schools. -
Hi angell,
Take rains' advice -
go and ballot at 2a(2). What have you got to lose ? Nothing.
Many 2a(2) in Henry park stay > 2km. Some stay far, 15 km away. Also ballot together with you. For all you know, you could be one of the lucky ones balloted in. So, definitely must try yr luck !
Also make contingency plan. If unlucky balloted out of 2a(2) - then explore try another school, under 2b. If you are Methodist church member or Catholic Church member, see if you can possibly join a church affliated primary school, under 2b. At the same time, fill up waitlist form and submit to Henry park school. After entire p1 registration exercise is over in August, come September 2014 - Henry park school will start to process those on waitlist.
You need to ask hpps principal - will she give priority to 2a(2) failed in balloting waitlist, compared to 2b failed balloting on waitlist . Find out all these first.
Example (ask p specifically
-
Suppose 2 pupils withdrew, before december year end.
so, 2 vacancies arise.
Suppose 9 kids stand before p, inside that waitlist. all desire that 2 vacancies!
they are in the same boat ie. had failed at balloting.
These kids are parents of :-
- 2a (1) sc - active alumni
- 2a (1) sc - sleeping alumni
- 2a (1) pr - active alumni
- 2a (1) pr - sleeping alumni
- 2a (2) sc
- 2a (2) pr
- 2b sc parent volunteer - active, had clocked 60 / 80 pv hours in school.
- 2b sc (grassroot)
- 2b pr (grassroot)
Ask p specifically :-
- think the first vacancy most likely will go to one of the 4, from 2a(1), inside waitlist.
But Which 2a (1) get it ?
Is it to the active 2a (1) sc (active alumni ) ?
Whereas that 2a (1) sc (sleeping alumuni) - won't get it, because she inactive at the school alumni activities ?
- next ask now, second vacancy goes to who ?
Does it go to the 2b sc parent volunteer who had clocked 60 pv hours in school, or to that 2a (1) sc sleeping alumni ?
If go to the 2a (1) sc - then 2b clock 60 pv hours so hard, also no use ?
Then next time, people will not pv anymore, since no opportunity given ?
How about those 3 pr from phase 2a, inside waitlist ?
Does it mean they can never come back to Henry park alma mater, anymore?
Even if they are 2a (1) Active pr - also useless ?
Because inspite of government giving them > 30 years such a long time frame (one generation had already grown up), they still refuse to convert into sc ?
How about that 2b sc ( grassroot) ?
Because 2b grassroot pap members zero contribution to popular schools, hence = zero chance, inside waitlist ?
How about that 2b pr (grassroot) ?
Since pr + grassroot - also, zero chance, inside waitlist ?
==============================================
At the same time, explore another option.
Talk to yr Henry park p.
ask p - Can open up an extra p1 class, for 2015 p1 intake?
Because if can open up 1 more extra class -
Then your problem is solved. then all of you can get in - no need balloting anymore in 2a(2). If p reply is school no more place to open up 1 more p1 classroom, then you counter-propose to p, \"no need to use a standard size classroom. Can we Just use one mobile green container as a classroom for an extra P1 class? it is good enough, as long as the air-con container can accommodate 30 pupils. \" hpps p definitely know what is a green container mobile clAssroom, because this year 2013 p6 Henry park students are using them, at mount Sinai premises (temporary location). Inside got lighting, got air con. Try to fight for it, to get this through. Justify by saying that you are caught in dilemma, because due to new tweak, you are unable to join 2a(1). If p reply that she can't make decision to open up new p1 class, because it is moe who decide on the number of p1 classes each year, beg your principal, to help you appeal to moe - use green mobile container to open up 1 more extra p1 class. The container is mobile . Next time if dont need anymore, can shift to another school premises that require urgent classroom.
Btw, those 2a(2) from the other 5 schools that have < 40 seats @end of 2a(2) this year, that is, (ai tong, red swastika, nan Hua, chij st Nicholas, Fairfield Methodist) -
Can also appeal to your principal, use mobile green container to open up an extra p1 class. Then you can all skip 2a(2) balloting. Why do you have to ballot ? because not enough places. if green container can be solution to yr dilema, then Bring this up, appeal to your principal. -

Thanks very very much phtthp for such a detailed response!
We will definitely try Henry Park, and I will take up your suggestion of writing to the P. I heard they are trying to go single session in 2016(?) so not sure if they have enough classrooms. The school grounds isn't very big and they just added a building to the former plaza area, so.....keeping fingers cross! -
finally…2013 intake have closed…
its time for this thread to move up… -
The 2007 piggies now - pass the baton over to 2008 batch.
Exit the little piggies singing "sayarona".
In come the cute, little rats running in excitedly, waving to all parents here.
This is your stage now. -
