My elder child encountered some of these problems: doing revision paper after revision paper but teacher may not have time to finish going through or mark etc I heard top class worse. Do a lot of extra but all mark by themselves! Sometimes, the children end up asking their tutors whether the answers are right or wrong. Of course, some of his friends in other schools encounter another problem: extended supplementary hours or even staying back in school for many days in school for extra lessons.

I told myself that I would be more enlightened when my younger one takes the PSLE. After Prelims, if my younger one is tired and the teacher still extends supplementary lessons or conduct extra lessons, I will pull her out.

I think what a tutor (who was an ex-teacher) told me is true. Quantity does not guarantee good results. Of course, if you are talking about top class pupils who just need fine-tuning, MAYBE doing the tonnes of revision papers work. But there is no guarantee. Otherwise, all the top P6 class pupils in my children's school will be getting A stars for Science and English considering the number of papers that they do.

I think it is important to study smart. Should spend time revising the weaker subjects and weaker topics. That is why I don't understand why some teachers will pile pupils with current year prelim papers with two or three weeks to go to PSLE every year. These two to three weeks should be spent on revision and not doing ALL the questions in the prelim papers mindlessly. Yes, if the teacher bothers to look through and select certain tricky and challenging questions to do, I think this is good strategy. But to do all? Maybe it is easier to tell the class to do all than spend time selecting questions.

As for the crash courses... I think it may benefit those who are close to getting A stars and just need some \"polishing\". But for those who want to see miracles from A to A star, you may want to think twice. To me, I tried some before so that is my opinion.
      :goodpost:
DS also flooded with Premium sch worksheet during last year psle. His teacher did not have sufficient time to go thru their worksheet that they completed. Seemed like most school are practicing in such way.

Same here, received my Maths prelim results already, got 57 1/2 (just passed) but I still cried..

        careless mistakes?

Is the prelim paper exceptionally difficult?

How did you do for MCQ, section B and section C?

My advice is to make sure u get full marks for MCQ and section B.

Section C, make sure those topics u r good at, u get full marks. Any time left, relook at those topics u r weak in n understand the methodology used to solve. U might not get these qns correct, but would still get working marks.

There is a PSLE Maths thread in ksp. If u can, go to this thread to check out how some qns are solved.

        Jiayou.

A lot of careless mistakes, my paper 1 is the one which pulled me down since I'm weak at it, Paper 2 not as much since got Calculator.

I am taking foundation maths so I doubt there are threads on FMA questions. Found the paper difficult and almost lost my best friend just because my results.

Maybe I'm pressuring myself too much already cus I really want to go to YSS/YTSS NA 😢

For EL PSLE Composition, is it better to

            (a) write a composition which has an excellent twist but does not end with a conclusion/reflection? For e.g ends with:
What chilled him to the bone was the fact that as his father was led away(arrested), he spat, "This is not over!" As a result of that last comment, he was very cautious as a feeling of impending doom remained in his heart for a prolonged time. Fear.
            (b) not an excellent plot but has an appropriate conclusion/reflection

I agree with you totally. This is also the first time that I am going thru' PSLE preparation with DD1, so I seriously would do it differently for my younger one in years to come when she takes her PSLE and also for the fact that some of the syllabus are going to change which will affect her.

We still have a lot of past years exam papers left untouched but I am not too concerend because the schools had already asked them to do (as being incorporated in the school revision papers) and so no point to do repetitive work. So I also ask myself does it mean the students would do well in PSLE if they finish all the past year exam papers? I probably would know the answers after DD1 gets her results in Nov. But I am quite sure if she does not perform well in her strong subjects, it is more because of her state of mind in doing the paper on that day and probably careless mistakes and not because she has not done enough past year exam papers......

Nowadays, as a more mature P6 student, DD1 already can tell me she want to learn something new when she goes for lessons (be it tuition or school lessons), she does not want to waste time doing papers if she learns nothing in the end.

Hv u understood why u r making careless mistakes in paper 1? What time do u sleep at night before the Maths paper? Calm your mind when u sit down to do the paper. aiyo, I very long winded hor ? šŸ˜‚

A Chinese physician shared with me to give my child a piece of dark choco on the exam day to keep the mind alert n sharp. Maybe u try this?

                  Dun give up, jia you.

Shared with you: I not a Maths pupil during my pri sch days, always scoring < 80. During my P6 year, I practised daily before PSLE . Finally passed with a A*. In my sec sch days, Maths so-so only. During sec 3/4 failed mid year too. Year end only just passed. Again, I practised daily before the 'O' lvl, got a A*. Then in JC, again so-so only. Again, I practised daily n got a A.

If I still remember, I slept around 11 to 12+, habit already.
Paper 1 one of my careless mistake is on the Order Of Operation question, very kancheong until forgot to divide before adding, 1 mark wasted. :slapshead: haizz..
my weakest part is on fraction, but still didn't study on the topic at home. Still can't understand why I always study about pet birds but not on things which are important for PSLE! :slapshead:
Will try the dark choco method if my mother allow me to eat chocolate, good reason to eat somemore šŸ˜‚ thank you for the advice! :udawoman:

It's abt one month to PSLE. U can try to sleep a little earlier now. Like 30 mins before your usual 11 to 12+. Manage your time well during the day so you wont hv to slog late. Then gradually another 30 mins earlier. Until u r able to sleep well before 10pm.

The dark choco need not be one whole bar - would be too much. I bou the Hersey Nuggets Dark Choco with Almonds. Now on offer at Giant. Reason why I chose this: one pack comes with 6 nuggets n the 1st ingredient is dark choco (90%) not sugar or butter.

If your mum allows you to eat dark choco, do remember to drink lots of plain water too. We wont want you to get a sore throat šŸ˜‰

And about studying about pet bird and not PSLE. I think it is a good break from studying for PSLE. Again, it is about time mgt. U got to balance the time spent on both.

                        Again, jia you.
