1. (B) For \"came\" to be correct I'd expect to see matching past tense:
e.g. most of the rice we ate [while on holiday in Australia] came from Thailand.
As it is, the question implies a present continuous tense, hence I prefer \"comes\". If they are saying \"came\" is correct because the rice was imported some time ago, then they are being pedantic in the extreme. In any case, the importation didn't happen once, it is continuous; and you routinely expect to find rice that \"comes from Thailand\".
2. (A) for \"report\" to be correct, the tense should match - i.e. I'd expect to see \"occurs\" at the end. Also \"report\" would be a general guideline, rather than a comment on a specific event... But they use \"occurred\" which is past tense, implying it actually happened, and hence \"have reported\" matches as something \"you should have done\".
This takes far too long, I'm bowing out of English. -
pl help me in this…sentence transformation.

He had not met Tom since he had had graduated from college.

For EL PSLE Composition, is it better to
(a) write a composition which has an excellent twist but does not end with a conclusion/reflection? For e.g ends with:
What chilled him to the bone was the fact that as his father was led away(arrested), he spat, "This is not over!" As a result of that last comment, he was very cautious as a feeling of impending doom remained in his heart for a prolonged time. Fear.
(b) not an excellent plot but has an appropriate conclusion/reflection -
May I ask if grass is counted as a counyable or uncountable noun?

kiasuparentsirock:
This questions bags many opinions. To write (a) well, it would presume that the writer has the language competency and maturity to hold the plot in the rest of the composition well. (I'm assuming that the rest of the writing answers the question, has a ICC and good character development.) If that is so, (a) would, generally, be graded well. However, its more risky for poor or developing writers as the rest of their composition might not be sufficient for their composition to end in such a manner. For EL PSLE Composition, is it better to

(b) is the safer and more mundane route for most writers. The problem, however, is that the composition will end up sounding like a million others, thus it would be hard for them to get the really top bands of 38-40.
Essentially, pupils need to learn how to take calculated risk based on their own level of writing. If they are developing writers, go for (b) and if they have mastery of the language, go for (a). Its a little like investments, if you have huge reserves of capital, going for blue chips would reap potentially high rewards, but if not better go for bonds or put in FD. -

In my opinion, I think it should be:
No sooner had I arrived at the station, the train arrived.[/quote]The reason why I wrote:
\"No sooner had I arrived at the station, than the train arrived.\"
is because, if memory serves me right, (No sooner... than) is considered a parallel construction.
