      buds:

I already wrote in to get take her out of supplementary lessons for the whole month leading to PSLE when she was down for high fever last week. DD does not have enough time to rest due to the mountains of homework from all subjects on an average day that she has to complete.. what more to rest or sleep.. That has contributed to her immune system breaking down after holding out this long. I am also factoring in the importance of her being in tip-top shape (healthy) so with afternoons off supp, I am hoping she won't fall sick again anytime soon. The weariness of their daily more than 12hrs routine is taking a toll on their mind and their body.

Sometimes I dunno if the teachers care whether they get rest or not because they are pushing the kids to the edge. I have no choice but to intervene to find some balance at this crucial juncture. :xedfingers:
Cut down on spicy and oily food.
Stay hydrated...vegetable soup, traditional soup, sweet dessert soup...
Also plenty of fruits (not DURIAN, pls!!)...melons, papaya, banana...for the natural vits. and energy
And BRANDS to stay alert on crucial days....

I think many teachers are caught between a rock and a hard place. I know some parents who complained that my daughter's school was too laid back and didn't give enough homework. Those parents will blame the teachers for not pushing enough if their kids don't do well. Others like us will blame teachers for overworking our kids. So I decided that I would decide what was too much for my kid and take responsibility for the consequences.

        :hi5:
Some kids are efficient & fast worker, some like to procrastinate or dilly dally. Some kids need more hours of sleep, some less.
So Yes. I take the responsibility for deciding how much work & rest dd will get too :).

Yup. We are down to less spicy and oily. With the daddy away there isn't a need to whip up those much. Sweet desserts and watever novelty fruits they don't take (dunno how to eat), take vits, don't like BRANDS. No issues with diet. Never did. Her recent fever gotten from her brother. Not enough rest made her more susceptible to falling sick.

[quote=\"buds\"]I share the EXACT same thoughts, Verysuperkiasu.

At least I'm not alone...but seriously contemplating calling the school for this drastic step. Has anyone ever homeschooled their chn few weeks before PSLE?

The extra two hours will not make much of a difference at this point. It may be worse if the kids fall sick and then cannot function properly during the PSLE.

Don't understand why teachers like to pile pupils with revision papers during revision period. I heard of horror stories last year. After prelims, some teachers piled pupils with current year prelim papers. 2 to 3 sets per day. The poor kids did not even have time to revise!

Parents are caught in between as well when teachers are not flexible. Many parents in DDs school already decided for our kids because the homework is really too much! While there are schools like your daughter's school two years ago that didn't give enough homework, there are also schools like where she is in that dishes out too much, prelims or no prelims, PSLE oral exam notwithstanding. DD got :scared: when a few of her friends who resided in JB got chided for not completing homework, mind you it was senseless homework like copying a booklet of like 20 Math questions and answers even if you got them right. Only those who got full marks need not do any copying obviously. On top of that there was practice booklets to do too. Apart from those Math homework, there is also 100 questions from MT, practice booklets, mconline, composition? :siao:, English practice booklets. :skeptical: Yesterday there was art. Today is Sci prelims. :siao: Perhaps because your DD barely got any work from school it is not possible to fathom the kind of homework we have on these children's plates in the last few months. We (the parents) are caught in between for despite deciding for the children and willing to accept the consequences, the children are being ridiculed in school by the teacher. Of course, again we may not know if this is true too right even if the other classmates spoke of it. So, all the children eventually by hook or by crook will end up doing them for fear of being scolded in class even if they live in JB. Because the teacher told him, your mom said you didn't need to do? I teacher or your mom teacher?

Talking about not giving oily and heaty food, I rejected MIL's 'invitation' twice for a relatives BBQ, citing I need to keep DS' health as first priority ( which is 100% true!). Her eyes rolled  and attempted to convince DH to let DS go.

I am also watchful on the daily soup we made...cannot be too cooling or heaty like 十å…Ø蔄걤 and å…«ēę±¤, better have a balance mix or just neutral soup. Essence can be heaty, so do not give too much to your DC. Exercise and sleep are on high priority list. Next, pray really hard šŸ™ šŸ™ šŸ™!

This may sound crazy to some of you....but I feel like pulling out my child out of school for this one remaining month. There's just so much homework now, on top of supplementary classes. Even as I'm typing, dd is still doing her homework. Everynight is the same. weekends worst!

I know where her weak areas are - from her prelim exams - but I have absolutely NO TIME to revise with her , or help her brush up the weak areas.

I really feel like homeschooling her now till PSLE.
I will do that for my child next year when she sits for PSLE. I think it is pointless to do so much work every day and no time for revision. My DS took the PSLE last year. Learnt from the experience.
