I freeze yogurt with fruits in those small freezable Daiso lunch boxes, and by recess, the contents will have thawed nicely, cold enough to be food-safe and cool enough to eat comfortably.

Even when turn bad also can't tell coz yogurt bait sour. 😆

          Hi CayennePepper

Can I check with you, does the freezing/thawing affect the texture of the yoghurt? DD loves yoghurt, but I'm hesitant because I know my thermal bag won't be able to keep it cool enough till recess.

          Great question 🙂
Yes i think the thawing does affects the texture a bit, but not significantly. And some brands seem less susceptiblek. I experimented to get one that everyone approves of.
I find that the frozen strawberries, grapes etc (i cut them up first) act like little ice cubes and keep the yogurt cool enough in the thermal bag.

          Can yoghurt be frozen?

Like some food cannot be re-freezed once they hv been thawed.

Think that is mostly raw meat.

As for yoghurt, it is not thawed int he 1st place. Anyway, my home have this habit of freezing our yoghurt and then scrapping it off the tub...and eat it like shaved ice! 😉

Hi. Can we share what we cook for our children to bring to school for lunch?

I am a lousy cook http://www.sherv.net/emoticons.html so I thought of getting some ideas here

We can share other tips too e.g. container, etc.

              TIA

In the beginning of the year, I will cook at home n bring the lunch to school so that ah boy can eat it while hot at the nearby hawker centre.

I do not prepare his lunch when he has afternoon lessons. He paiseh to bring inside the sch. Sch also does not encourage this practice, prefers the pupils to buy from the canteen, no matter how long the q is, how lousy the food is, how unreasonably priced the food is given the tiny portion 😉

I have a few thermos containers - 1 for soup, 1 for carbo, 1 multi-tiered for veg, meat n egg

                Simple dishes:
                1. macaroni
                2. porridge
                3. fried noodles
                4. fried rice
                5. stir fry veg
                6. steam or stir fry pork slices
                7. steam or pan fry egg or softboiled eggs

Would those who pack in thermal containers show some examples of the containers? And how hot does the food stay? I recall it should stay above 60C to be safe. Also, how much does it weigh?

I used to pack lunches for my kids daily when we lived overseas and school didn’t provide lunches. But they had a fridge and microwave in school so I didn’t need to think about keeping food hot/cold. Thanks!

Jen, do you know why the school does not encourage it?

I can hazard a guess - the stall holders don't like it!

                        harlo.... 😄

my kiddoes all time favourite is tomato sauce pasta with minced pork. vary the type of pasta, or sometimes with bacon or ham instead of minced meat.

pasta aglio olio style with chicken meat or chipolata sausage smell wonderful too.

fried rice, fried noodles, fried macaroni, fried beehoon.

stir fried pork slices in spring onions, onions and veg on plain rice.

gourmet burgers is special treat. beat mcd anytime. with homemade potato wedges.

my dc requested for no sandwiches cos they think it's boring. also no soupy stuff cos only have limited time to eat. no porridge cos like sick food. kekeke.

one of my dd's classmate's dad is a jap chef and he brings nice sushi rolls to much envy of their classmates too. i'm no good at sushi rolls if not, i think it'd be good too.
