Okay, so if she does not do A Math and she goes to Poly to do a Science stream, how can she enroll into University after that? I heard that upon completing Poly, students can join 3rd yr into NUS. Is this true? I am speaking about courses like Pharmacy, Biomedical Science, etc.

You can refer to all the polytechnics websites for such info. From what I know, usually they skipped a few modules, at most year 1 in uni. Haven't heard of skipping 2 years of uni.

Thank you for all your replies and guidance. I did call MOE and they said that I should register through the school and do the Course privately....

I cannot register as a private candidate. Yes, I don't know how much she can be coached privately...
Please do let me know of other solutions. Thank you so very much.

        Is your kid mathematically-inclined?
I found A Maths easier than normal Maths.
I could self-learn many topics of A Maths and did them before the teacher taught. In fact I was quite sure I had full marks for my 'O' levels exam.
I had no tuition but I did most of the ten years series.

Hi my son may be dropping Amaths. He is currently Sec4.

i was wondering, if my son drop amaths, how will it affect his chances of going JC?
he also currently takes Economics in Sec Sch.
however he does not have any bonus points(CCA and HMT).

          So i wanna know,
if he scores 9points for olvls in 2010,
can he still go to a JC like SAJC?

i understand tt JC students must take 3 H2 Subjects, and the most popular combination seems to be H2 Chem Bio/Phy and Maths.

will it be a good option for my son to choose H2 Chem Bio Econs?

oh btw he takes pure chem and bio in sec4 this yr.

          Thanks for the help

without a maths, doing h2 maths is a HUGE challenge. But if sajc has h1 maths with h2 chem/bio/econs, it’s still ok, I guess. Best to check if the jc has that combi.

is h2 maths compulsory? or isit important for the future?

My understanding is that H2 maths is common in most JCs…Those who cant manage and are doing 4 H2 subjects will drop to H1 maths by year2.

Ermm, if you’re refering for entry to Unis, I guess it would depend on the type of courses… if H2 maths is compulsory.

But for computation of scores, a H1 Maths carry the same weightage as a H1 Bio for eg. that is, a max of 10 points. Whereas H2 subjects carry max of 20 points.

there is a very good tuition centre in bukit timah plaza, look for the tutor Mr Koh TB, he is very good, ex-JC math teacher came out to tutor math full time.

hope it can save the add math heartache of any parent/students here

The WS's answer is 2. Is it correct?

Going strictly by BODMAS the answer should be 0.4. What did you get, Tianzhu?

Between 6 to 9 points, there are quite a few JCs to choose from: SAJC, ACJC, NYJC, CJC, ADJC, MJC.

However, once you are above 9 points, you are almost left with Tampines JC and Serangoon JC.

To attain 9 points for L1R5, it is equivalent to 3A1 and 3 A2. In my tutoring experience, students with double Math background can get A1 for E Math easily, though the score for A1 in past 2 years was estimated at 92% or higher.

If your son is strong in English, he can probably attain 2 or 3 A1/A2 for English & Humanities subjects.

If he is also strong in Science, he can probably score another 1 or 2 A1/A2. This would bring the total to 9 points.

Do drop me a message at http://singapore.math-chinese-tutor.com/contact-us/ if you need me to clarify further.
