Have to be in school by 7:45 am every day.
End time varies each day - different for different classes and for levels. Also depends upon electives / third languages/ CCA taken. Core classes end by 4, I think. But if the child is keen and wants to get involved in , likely the child will leave 6+ most days.

Yes, normally these students who missed lessons for valid reasons can request individual make-up lessons and test, quizzes etc with their respective subject teachers.

Junior training class is only conducted on Saturday morning in NUS. I dont think it will clash with anything except possibly CCA. Long time ago, it used to clash with the school based maths olympiad training class and students who have to opt out or miss part of the lessons but right now the maths olympiad training class is held during weekdays.
Anyway, junior training last for only 1 or 2 months - I can't recall, after that there is a selection for senior training which is still on Saturday Morning. The only time you will get disruption is if you are selected for overseas competition from what I can see.

Hello, I just found this forum and would like to add a few cents into the DSA camp process (I think it’s late, but it might still help).


For each laboratory station, the child is graded on 6 areas with scores of 0~ 3 for each. The areas include things such as how they work as a team, how goal oriented they are, how positive they are, whether they display curiosity and innovation, how they learn from the process and mistakes and etc. The students may be asked to explain why he/she had done something. Each area is given roughly equal weightage.

Veto powers are given to each teacher (by giving a -1 on the mark sheet, substianted with reasons) for behaviors that are simply unacceptable.

Hi there!


I’m currently a Year 1 student in River Valley High and I’m really keen to try out for next year’s 2015 Year 3 admission. Is anyone familiar with the process and all?

So far what I know is that there will be a selection test followed by an interview and English essay test (or something?) for shortlisted ones. Is that correct? If so, any tips for preparing for the test and such? I heard the competition for the Year 3 intake is especially tough…also does anyone know about how many students they take in per year for Year 3?

I’ve tried asking seniors who were from RV and successfully transferred into NUSH, they were of great help but I had SO many questions I didn’t want to bother them too much. My mum is also asking for more information to help prepare me for the transfer, so I will hopefully get in (after being rejected for Phase 2 Admission last year… e_e not the best experience) because NUSH has always been my dream school.

Just anyone with any details and is willing to help me out? Sorry this has become a long essay! Haha thank you ~ PS pardon me for any grammatical or spelling errors – my phone browser isn’t really working well

I have been to the nus hostel briefing on 28 sept with my DS, i am really happy with the boarding program and the speech from the boarding master is so assuring. I believed my DS will definitely benefit during his stay in hostel starting jan 1, 2014
