      West Spring Primary School:

Starting from P1, values inculcation will also be infused within the Mother Tongue and other subject curriculum. This will ensure that West Spring Primary pupils are strongly grounded in values right from a young age.
      Dear Mdm nor,

Can elaborate more on this \"values inculcation\"?

Are you referring to \"Di Zi GUI\" taught in p1, or referring to \"hao gong min \"?
Are character moral values taught inside the Chinese curriculum time (meaning : it will eat into teaching Chinese lessons curriculum time), or is taught as a separate subject, so that won't eat into p1 Chinese lessons proper ?

If is taught as a separate subject -
How do you teach \"values incalcation \" to p1 pupils ?
Is it taught through setting up drama, prop, or via project assignment?

      example (through projects, acting out)
by putting 4 or 5 kids together, in a group.

So, team 1 - enact character value, display \"gratitude\" or \"gratefulness\" to parents, grandparents, at home.

team 2 - enact character value, display \"compassion\", or \"kindness\" to society.

team 3 - enact character value, demo \"loyalty\".

team 4 - enact character value, show \"graciousness\", or \"being considerate\" to friends, teachers, classmates, around them.

      team 5 - enact character value, \"punctuality\".
ie. don't go to school, late for class.

Then form teacher in the P1 class - monitor all her pupils.
whichever p1 pupil demo any of the above character values taught during that week -
that child will be given a motivation sticker, \"Keep it Up \" !

      Is it like this ?

Thank you, for kind advice, from the school.

        :siam: Hi,

        Some questions as below:

        1) r students allowed to purchase their own black sch shoes and white socks from outside or they can only wear the shoes and socks with the sch crest?

        2) able to advise what is the colour of the uniform/ pe shirt?

        Suggestion:

        1) can u pls have a few different days for the purchase of all sch items (eg 2 days at end nov n 2 days at end dec) as some families will b away at different time. Also extending the sales to more days will help to reduce congestion and long waiting time as there r possibly 210 sets of parents and children (not to mention siblings n even anxious grandparents) turning up.

The sch can perhaps look into organising a queue system as well (eg: nov/ dec day 1- male students, nov/ dec day 2- female students) to ensure a smooth n fast free experience during the sales.

Lastly thk u to the sch admin for the prompt updates n gd job so far 🙂

mmm... we prefer white shoes actually. We think it will encourage the kids to take care of the cleaniness of the shoes. 😞

I prefer black shoes. White get dirty easily.

It is a good idea that the shoes will have the school logo on and the socks will have the name on. Otherwise children may bring in branded shoes and it may cause arguments with their peers. I think it is great that the students will all have the same uniform including shoes and socks.

I also hope the student care centre goes ahead. There are many of us who need this service and we would all feel better knowing that our kids are in the school building after school.

                Dear Duckeroo,

Thank you for your suggestions with regards to the sale of books.

Yes, there’re plans to have the sale of books, etc at the end of Nov / beginning December over a few days. It must also be noted that West Spring Primary has to coordinate with Zhenghua Secondary ( ZHS ) over this matter as ZHS is also needing space / days to sell their books to their pupils. More details on the days/dates/times for the sale of West Spring Primary books etc will be made known to parents in due course.

We’re still in the midst of finalizing the design & colour of the PE attire. It’ll be a vibrant colour, befitting our West Spring pupils.

In forging a strong sense of loyalty & pride for West Spring Primary, we strongly encourage parents to purchase the black school shoes with the school crest embossed on it. Hence, we encourage parents to take a look at the shoes during the sale of books day and then decide.

Like the PE attire, the white socks with the school crest and name will be compulsory for pupils to wear every day to school.

                  Hi phtthp,

As mentioned earlier on, values inculcation is being infused / integrated within the curriculum across all subjects and through incidental learning. These are the most effective ways to inculcate values in children. The school has recruited very highly experienced teachers who would be able to inculcate such values seamlessly within the curriculum as they’ve undergone training to do so. This also includes Di Zhi Gui, in addition to the revamped Civics & Moral Education ( CME ) lessons which will be conducted during the Mother Tongue lessons under CME period.

Parents of the pioneer batch of P1s who will be attending our briefing on 2 Jan 2014 will be further enlightened on our curriculum matters, which includes the questions you’ve asked in your previous post. If you are one of our parents, please do join us on that day as such matters are best shared during a briefing session.

Really great update from West Spring Primary School. Looking forward to the school opening on January and the purchase of text books and uniform. For a new school to be able to fill up all the vacancy is really a good start. Just like there is a saying,a good start is half the battle won.

My family will not b in sg from Nov to Dec. Hence, we cannot make it for the sales. Pls do advise what we should do since we are not able to purchase all the necessary things (uniform, shoes, socks, books) on the stipulated dates.

                      Thk u vy much 🙂
