DS wanted to practise writing even though CL tuition centre is giving one assignment each week. Somehow, he is not picking up the techniques to write smoothly ( due to poor CL foundation). School Teacher commented his compo lacks feeling and also the sentence structures are not smooth. Hiaz! I don't  know how to mark his compo. Honestly, I do not think he can pick it up in 3 weeks so I do not want to spend so much time on CL compo but he wants.....
Dd's school cl teacher get them to memorize good phrases .... She also shared during the last ptm meeting that can get the child to practice writing paragraph to describe certain scene or feeling ... Not necessary to write full compo .... If your child is willing to work on it then just let him be, give him time limit like 45 min of practice then move on.... As a supportive role just read what ur ds wrote, suggest some improvement and give some positive comment. I do that with dd, I don't grade her work, I read them n give some suggestion, sometimes I will make her redo her compo with the suggestion -

How does your ds react to it? Was he mad at you? Guess we need to act on it tonight.beariecrystal3:
My girl seems to be taking it easy, although she is not doing very well in her school work. She sleeps as usual, watch korean drama, and chat with her friend in whatsapp. We feel like taking away her hp. She just switch off at 830pm almost daily when psle is coming soon.
We took away DS phone abt a month back. The whatapps group messages are hundreds a day so he kept checking his phone. And once he started, he could not stop. We gave many chances and he could not control the usage so we took it away. Since then, there's so much peace at home and he is focusing on his work so much better. -

Guess we need to act on it tonight.[/quote]I confiscated dd's phone sometime last yr becos she was involved in a few whatsapp chat groups and the no. of messages were insane, like 1000 in a few hrs  ! Almost all of those messages were nonsensical, some bordering on crude. Dd was very upset & angry, but i did not relent. I explained to her my rationale & she had grudgingly accepted it. I did let her use the phone on a few occasions like during the sch hols. She had recently requested that i return the phone to her after the psle!clay569:

I brainwashed DS that Whatsapp is wasting time. FB is also wasting time (Legal age for FB is 13 years old anyway. So I used this as an excuse
).
The school is using Edmodo to communicate with children so I let him use it but I monitor closely. Most of the time I was the one that check Edmodo and tell him if there is new homework or project communication from his classmates.
I guess it is easier to ban him using those since he is a boy

Yes, seems like girls have a higher tendency to be hooked on such tools as they are generally more social.I brainwashed DS that Whatsapp is wasting time. FB is also wasting time (Legal age for FB is 13 years old anyway. So I used this as an excuse
