Thesentences for 默写 are actually extracted from an actual compo. I've compiled the whole year's compo for P3. These are actually 好词好句.
Occasionally you can refer to some of these mo xie sentences to do a compo.
When I discuss with mine in some topics, its much easier to guide her what phrases to use. Hard works do pay.

My dd's moxie is tomorrow. Her moxie is also the beginning of a chinese compo. I will see whether the teacher reads out to them for P2. She told me her teacher told them to memorise though. Her ting xie comprises of short phrases and sentences which she could write without having to learn. It's the moxie that is a little challenging because she is not used to writing in that manner. However, I agree with you that in the long run, it will help her with compo writing.
Initially I wondered about the merits of moxie. Why need to memorize as long as you know how to write? But after thinking about it, I think moxie ( memorizing) is good for the child in the long run. It will help when writing composition and constructing sentences...especially for those who don't speak Chinese at home. -

During P2, nope, her tr did not read out. She expected them to memorise, any missing word/punctuation, marks will be deducted. And your kid is really good, mine had to learn, if not, sure cannot make the mark. CL was a foreign language until she started P1.

Thanks. I am sure your girl has improved since she started studying in PH. I felt my dd would have given up learning chinese if I am not around to encourage her. Nowadays, kids are surrounded with English-speaking friends, it's quite difficult to get them interested in Chinese. My dd's first language was mandarin but has been speaking less and less of it. when she moves up. So, I am trying hard to keep her on her toes to practise chinese everyday. Practising more and getting more correct helps her to stay interested.

When my son just started with this thing called 默写, I find it a total waste of time bcos he will forget everything the next day…surprisingly, he can still remember certain phrases up till now.
As for 听写, it helps the child with 词语搭配 like 三五成群 or 拍手叫好.
I find that Pei Hwa switches to any new format introduced by MOE very fast。 For eg, there is a section in the exam paper which was replaced by selecting the correct hanyu pinyin. My boy has problems selecting the correct pinyin. So it’s a struggle for him now.

Chinese was a foreign language for my boy when he was in P1. My worry then was whether he will pass. That was the time he had group tuition. Then a friend advised me to get individual Chinese tuition for him, esp Pei Hwa uses Higher Chinese. -

My son doesn’t speak a word of Mandarin out of lessons. I’m keeping a close tab on his Chinese and English.
He will be in P5 next year, and I’m at a loss if he should continue with HCL or take CL as 2nd language. At P4 this year, I’m relieved and happy if he can get Band 2 for all his subjects…the high side of Band 2 though. -

Surprisingly, Hu3 CL teacher read out the whole sentence for the moxie!
Should be tmr for mine, let u know tr read out anot. She memorised.
1. ting xie accoreding to list - she said ok
2. mo xie according to list, tr did not read out, just go by the list #, not even the first few words - she said copable
3. Fill in the blank with the ting xie words - she complained tough
I have yet to see the paper/questions set for 3rd part. -
My son will have having his 1st 听写/默写 (for P4) 2moro. Not exactly his first
The third section is the toughest because the kids have to understand what each phrase of the spelling is and fill in the blanks. My son did badly in this section. So now, I explain each phrase to him. -

Mine goes for group tuition. I will just coach her twice/thrice a week for anything she asks. Her CL oral exam is always :roll: :lol: She still cannot hold a 5-mins conversation in 'pure' mandarin. Tat's why we say she is still a 'eat potato' girl. Before K2, she does not speak a single chinese word. When she first joined K2(in Sept) in Singapore, her CL tr started her from N1 level. :lol:

Dyh, your son did not score band 1 for CL, still can get into Fa3, his other 2 subjects must be really good.
