2013 PSLE Discussions and Strategy
-
Shan, my DS has his Me Time 2 hours a day which is spread throughout the day.
My son works slowly too so we (my son and I) make plans on what he needs to finish in a day. If he can finish his work fast, he can have additional Me Time. Btw, I found out that it is ok to spend 1 hour on 2 Chinese Comprehension OE. I also thought it is too long but his Chinese teacher said it is ok.
I encourage him to work on sofa, on bed, on the floor, etc because I myself will feel bored if confined to the desk. I let him walk around the house and jump on the sofa if he needs to read and memorize something.
When he is doing his work, I will mark his work, prepare material for his practice, doing housework and have my own Me Time
Regarding movie during weekend, maybe you want to rent video instead? There won't be time wasted in queuing for tickets and less probability in catching cold/flu spread by other cinema goers.
Edit: DS also naps 1 hour everyday. When he works, I also allow him to have music in the background (he said it is too quiet otherwise). -
Shan:
As I've 2 other kids and it's school hols, they will distract dd1 by talking to her etc... So I have to make dd sit with me in my room. While I work, she does her own work. She is into doing school HW as they have supp lessons, top school papers, etc...Are your kids just doing sch/tuition hw now or sch/tuition hw & more?
And are you still bringing your kids out? Wanted to bring him to watch a movie this week but DH said, \"Are you sure?....PSLE is just a few weeks away...\"
I have to \"study\" with my DS, that is stay in the same room with him. He is easily distracted.....walk around, lie in bed, read a book or comic etc....
He is doing only school & tuition hw (except for Chinese) as he takes a long time to complete it. Eg, 1 Maths paper a week. And he took more than 1 hour yesterday to complete 2 Chinese OE passages(Tuition HW).
Definitely not intense revision. So yes... I am wondering if she is too \"relaxed\".... Was just telling her, do you know PSLE is next week???? She asked me to buy 2013 prelim papers because she heard from tuition mates that some schools are killer and she wants to try it, etc... Also, she was sick ytd... stomach flu (fever, diarrhoea and vomit) but fortunately she bounced back after 1 day of feeling really lethargic.
I plan to ask them to work hard and I will bring them out tomorrow evening for \"partying\" as dh is out of town. -
What ah boy did today:
read the Sci guide
play daddy's mobile phone
work on CL tuition compo
watch an hour of tv
reading magazine while eating lunch
Later 1.5hr of CL tuition, then to finish up sch assignment.
He can't commit whether tonight got time slot for revision  -
All your kids so hardworking… I feel tired just by reading your posts. I’m just doing school homework + maybe 30 minutes of revision everyday…
-
my time table for my girl:
8am–2.30pm : back to sch for supp classes
4pm - 5.30pm : revision
6pm-9pm : go out for dinner and enjoy her break while her sis is at tuition ctr.
10.30pm-11pm : ready for bed…
since she’s having such long hours in sch during the day time, i have to let her enjoy her rest time fm the evening to balance off. -

Thanks! I rented a DVD during lunch time...cheaper & saves time going to the cinema. Now DS is playing nerf battles with his brothers.....later hope he can do some hw.Shan, my DS has his Me Time 2 hours a day which is spread throughout the day.

DS’s school did not give any notes on Situational Writing. I find it strange. There is no guidelines on how to write letter/email/postcard, etc. There is no structure at all.

My DS finished supp class at 2pm today.
Said he is very tired and did these in the afternoon…
Read newspaper
chit chat with DS2 about mindcraft
wrote his ‘story’ on his little book ( he says he is writing a book)
Work on one EL compre
rest 20 mins
work on Sci practice paper
no nap
All the above homework are from school. I promised a movie night, no more piling today. I do not think he can function beyond 8pm since he woke up early this morning. -

In fact , I am also wondering about it. School does not give out overview notes. DS refers to work done in P5&6 to refresh the format for situational writing.DS's school did not give any notes on Situational Writing. I found it strange. There is no guidelines on how to write letter/email, etc.

Yes. No notes given. All the teacher gave is one sample of letter. That's it. I was wondering whether DS should have taken notes but he blur blur did not write it down.
