      Thank you for your help.

The WS's answer is 2. Is it correct?

Going strictly by BODMAS the answer should be 0.4. What did you get, Tianzhu?

Hi my son may be dropping Amaths. He is currently Sec4.

i was wondering, if my son drop amaths, how will it affect his chances of going JC?
he also currently takes Economics in Sec Sch.
however he does not have any bonus points(CCA and HMT).

          Thanks for the help
Between 6 to 9 points, there are quite a few JCs to choose from: SAJC, ACJC, NYJC, CJC, ADJC, MJC.

However, once you are above 9 points, you are almost left with Tampines JC and Serangoon JC.

To attain 9 points for L1R5, it is equivalent to 3A1 and 3 A2. In my tutoring experience, students with double Math background can get A1 for E Math easily, though the score for A1 in past 2 years was estimated at 92% or higher.

If your son is strong in English, he can probably attain 2 or 3 A1/A2 for English & Humanities subjects.

If he is also strong in Science, he can probably score another 1 or 2 A1/A2. This would bring the total to 9 points.

Do drop me a message at http://singapore.math-chinese-tutor.com/contact-us/ if you need me to clarify further.

              Hi there,

dropping A.Math shouldn’t affect entry into a good JC provided he can be certain of getting good grades for his other subjects. But he may have to struggle when doing H2 math. How is he doing for Elementary Math?

              Regards
              Sheryl

I do have student who is from the Normal Academic Stream who does not take A.Math in school. Currently, he is taking A.Math tuition at a tuition centre to help prepare him for ‘N’ level A. Math next year. I guess if your child can cope and is really keen on taking A.Math, you may want to either enrol him in a tuition centre or engage a 1-1 tutor.

Thank you for all your replies and guidance. I did call MOE and they said that I should register through the school and do the Course privately....

I cannot register as a private candidate. Yes, I don't know how much she can be coached privately...
Please do let me know of other solutions. Thank you so very much.

There is a tuition centre located in Bukit Timah Plaza, something like 3rd floor. The math teacher Mr Koh TB has been teaching math for few decades, formerly a further math teacher of a JC who quit to do tuition full time. All students taught by him do extremely well in math exam. If your child is enthusiastic about math, better start early then.

I have students who had F9 for A Maths just 3 months before O levels, sought help from us and managed to get A1 to B4 grades in the actual O levels. It is worth doing Add Maths well whether for A levels or Poly because H1/H2 Maths will build on Add Maths concepts, and poly students get to skip doing Add Maths module in favour of other modules.

Shinglee E Maths and A Maths workbooks. (companion to the Shinglee textbook)
