Sounds like ... me actually!
lolz, he is slowly becoming a hoarder...keeping boxes and plastic bottles, but dunno what he want to use it for;
Cafelatte, I didn't buy 39 Steps. He doesn't like mysteries so far, although I loved as a kid. Think he's too scared for now. Ne'er mind. Slowly! -

THANK YOU!Hi buds,
Usually for vendors who go to schools, they offer a cheaper subscription than what is found in bookstores. At least, that is what some of us as former teachers experienced.
By the way, another good magazine is eggplant. It is a magazine published by some of the IP schools. The stories are rather engaging, your child can also contribute articles and get paid if their articles get selected so it's quite a good tool to get your child excited about writing.

I'm gettin' it then! :celebrate:The Alternative Story:
I'm deeply honoured by that observation.By the way, buds, I was wondering if you are in the education line, your posts are always informative and current.

Why? Got vacancy at TAS issit? -

buds:
don't think so cos my ds1 will never sit through in one reading, anything that is heavy or boring in content.
Mmmmm... this looks good. How's content? Heavy?jedamum:
Found http://www.amazon.com/Your-Planet-Needs-You-Survival/dp/0330450956/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263136127&sr=8-1 in NLB recently; my boy sat through 2-3hrs to finish it in one go; think he likes this 'genre' of science (saving Gaia). Another short and colourful book that he likes of the same 'genre' - http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Peril-Horrible-Geography-Handbooks/dp/1407105779/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263136289&sr=8-1

Hey buds
Just want to let you know that the Wizard of Oz pop-up that you recommended sometime ago is really good! DH got it recently from e-bay and it's truly amazing! It is even more impressive when we see it physically. DD simply loves it!
:thankyou:
Only wished that the words have been larger in print, would have been perfect then. -
So sweet of your DH!
Yes, the pop-ups are truly impressive.
Yup, i would've preferred the fonts bigger
definitely... it seemed kinda lengthy for my
then 5yr old cos she said wah, the story is so
long mummy.. and i continued reading from where
she left off. I was definitely thirsty too from all that
reading after that. How much did your DH get
it for? Good deal? -
The 3-D pop-up is a visual feat but the story is much abridged. Do checkout the unabridged Wizard of Oz book too...delightful

We even went to search for the old Wizard of Oz movie (DVD)...great fun to watch !
I remember one Xmas, Robert Sabuda's pop-up Dino book was going for US$9.99 at Amazon! That was just before release of his Nania pop-up book. -
Hey buds,
No, no vacancy
Just an observation, I think the whole forum is very lively because of contributions by parents like yourself. Anyway, hope that you find more good books for your children.

A quick update on DS1's reading and understanding. We have purchased the Gulliver's book mentioned in this thread (and also the more simpler Horrid Henry and Dr Who Books), and DS1 can read but still not understand what he has read.
To test his comprehension I had him sit an English Paper for 6-7 year olds, and he scored an abject low score. Can anyone advise whether the English paper at the following link is difficult for 6 to 7 year olds:

Also, any practical tips on how to aid his understanding would be appreciated. :? -

DH thinks it was probably below S$20 all-in, including shipping. The book itself probably cost about $10 and is in a very good condition. Quite a steal, as a new one from Borders was probably retailing at $59.So sweet of your DH!

As the fonts are quite small, DD sometimes ended up skipping the next line when she reads   And she can't pronounce \"Dorothy\" properly!
