This school reminds me of my literature novel 'Animal Farm'. Seems like there are some 'Squealers' around to reinforce the dictatorship?
At 'that' position, one must be able to take jokes to gain popularity.
Do you watch 'The Noose'? You won't lose a job by being creative and humourous.

There was an accident involving a P5 boy and a lorry outside the school premises at around 4 p.m. yesterday. Heard the boy is alright except for some abrasions on his hand and leg.
The roads directly outside the school are narrow so they are quite tempting for pedestrians to beat the red light. Kids, please don’t chase one another on/along the roads. Be responsible for your own safety. -

Come across this article in the Straits Times forum today, entitled "Free up teachers to ‘just teach’". The writer is a former teacher and HOD. 2 sentences that strike are
‘Teachers spend more time on other duties than on fulfilling their fundamental role - to teach, mark student’s work and provide feedback on learning’ and
‘Learning has to take place in school and definitely not at tuition sessions; most students will not need tuition if learning has taken place in school’.

\"Due to feedback from residents conveyed by Li Lian to HDB concerning heavy vehicles traveling along Rivervale Drive to the construction site of Rivervale Delta BTO, HDB reviewed the route and decided to adopt the proposed longer route for heavy vehicles to avoid accidents similar tothe tragic accident in Tampines. The concern is with school children from Rivervale Primary School crossing the road. The new route took effect from 1 August 2013. In addition, construction contractors were reminded to comply with traffic rules, especially the speed limit.\"
I would think that the proposed longer route would mean avoiding the school zone right outside the main gate. The new rule took effect from 1 Aug and this accident happened in September. Clearly, the lorry driver has flouted the rule and should be doubly penalized - that is, if it is one of those heading towards the BTO flats. It is indeed more dangerous around the neighbourhood with many heavy trucks around, and along such small lanes.
Other than the road directly outside the main gate, please pay special attention at the nearest crossroad, esp. the point opposite Rivervale Mall: (this is one of the roads that lead to the BTO flats)
There is a green arrow that appears before the green man, and that arrow is meant for left-turning vehicles.
Hazard No. 1: Many vehicles going straight mistake that arrow as green light and start moving. I have witnessed many vehicles moved off on the appearance of the green arrow.
Hazard No. 2: Heavy vehicles turning left may do so without checking for pedestrians crossing the road, so please don't cross until the green man appears. Even then, please make sure you turn around to check that the turning vehicle has stopped for you before you cross. Once, I was wary of a lorry driver who did not turn on the green arrow, but turned without even stopping for pedestrians when the green man appeared. :mad: :rant:
Parents who have maids bringing the kids home, please remind the maids and the kids not to stand too near to the edge of the road while waiting to cross the roads.
School has sent out notice for everyone to be more vigilant too. Take care. -

If not, the article should be applicable to all the school forums instead of single out this school.
