For compo, be it CL or EL, it's not possible to score full marks because it is subjective. Besides, there are 2 teachers marking a compo. A mummy mentioned something about writing a weekly compo with phrasal verbs and idioms. It's a very good way to improve.
My son's form teacher is expecting her baby and will leave in June. I heard from a friend she is a very understanding and caring person. I can only hope that her replacement will be as good because the 2nd half of the year is very crucial. -

I am not surprised as it happened in my dd's class last year. As long as the child made use of all the helping words and wrote in proper sentence structures with no grammatical or spelling mistakes, they will get full marks for compo. Well...that's for P1 so can't say much for P2.janet_lee88:

I felt for a child to score perfect score, I believe he or she must be mature, steady and careful. All these characteristics can be built with consistency in their daily work. However, most importantly, the child should be able to move on after encountering failure, not cry over spilt milk. As parents, we help the child build tenacity but not downplay excellence so that the child knows the meaning of reaping what he sows.
I had seen a child with heart problems topped his cohort for PSLE. He missed lessons due to operation but he had been very consistent in his work thus he could make up for lost time.
For kids as young as P1 and P2, the syllabus are still manageable for some so as long as they are careful, there is no way that teachers could penalise them. However, the child should know as they grow older, they cannot always score perfect marks, trying their best is what counts in the end.
I guess the point is not to question how other kids can do it cos every child is unique, and has different upbringing but to rewire our brains to see how we can maximise our children's potential and whether full marks or not, they achieve their purposes in life ultimately. :lol: -

Any mummies with kids in P1 this year, can provide some advice about the new English Stellar program please ? I would like to have some idea what it is and how teachers teach English without a textbook. Thanks in advance

Last year, when my child joined at 2nd semester, her FT provided us with stories books and worksheets that she missed out in the first semester. The worksheets were pertaining EL components that kids could grasp from the respective story book. Quite an interesting way to learn EL. I am refering to P2 in this aspect. I cannot say for P1 or othyer level. -

It was the same for P1 last year. Worksheets will be given according to the story books they read in class. Spelling words are given based on the vocabulary in the books. The kids will be called to the back of the class for shared BIG book reading.

For SA1 and SA2 oral exams, the kids are required to memorise one poem from a booklet, plus read a short passage. Can get full marks as long as you can read all the words in the passage and perform the poem with interesting actions.

Thanks for the info. I still keeping the P1 books from my son just in case. But realized that there is a change of syllabus for P1/2 now for Eng. Anyway, I keep them just in case. -

My son told me his CL teacher will not be giving out any more spelling list…they will have to learn certain phrases from the textbook and tested from there. I think it’s a great idea because testing from the textbook is the best way for the child to remember the 识认字.
The unfortunate thing is no more 好词好句 which is from the 默写. -

My son’s teacher has already informed the class what will be tested for CA1…it only seems like school just reopened not long ago, and now have to start planning for CA1 revision. Fortunately no compo or oral. Whew!
