In my opinion, Science paper may not seem difficult, but it is the hardest to score well as the marking is the strictest of all papers since specific key words must be present and strung with the correct words to get the marks.

      You are so right here!
Although my dd was beaming when she saw the other thread on the Eng Paper yesterday. I won't let her see anymore from now on.
Although she is very consistent in her Maths+Sci results, I don't want her to emo on me for the next few days if things turned out differently.
I am so very glad MOE is making PSLE more manageable these days. Less worried when my next few take the exam.

One year easy does not mean MOE is making it more manageable. I remembered in year 2007, it was difficult and there was a little noise from upset parents. 2008 the paper became much easier and parents thought that maybe MOE is making papers easier. 2009 the paper was even harder than 2007! Many cried after the paper.
If it's easy across the board, they'll find it hard for selection to schools. It's just like if everyone is a scholar, who will be the manager in a company?
So I think for this year, they may have made the paper a little too simple and schools will have a headache when it comes to school selection They may have to make it a little more difficult next year in order to achieve a fine balance of making parents happy and easier for the schools selection process.

For those interested, MOE has clarified (back in 2011) that grading is not based on bell-curve. This means that if the paper is easy, there may be more As and A*s.

(side note - it's a pretty lengthy note, but it acknowledges the sometimes excessive competition with our education system - and parents' typical complaints)

T-scores are still calculated in order to aggregate the scores in the different subjects together. This is necessary, because some subjects may be harder than others so some \"normalisation\" is needed.

So, while easier papers may be a morale booster in the sense that you'll get a better letter grade, you will still be required to do well relative to the entire cohort to get a better aggregate score (which is probably the more important point).

This is a good summary of T-scores and how it's computed.

So if average students get 80 marks. if a student get 95 marks. What will he/her t-score for that subject? :scratchhead:

Highest PSLE score was 294 in 2007. Next highest recorded PSLE score was in 2009 - 290.

Second highest is 292 in 19xx. I forgot.

Oh you're right. It was 292 in 1993. But that was so long ago, 20 years. PSLE papers were very different then too.
