Yes, if we look at the brighter side......but this will definately disadvantage some kids....and they really put in lots of effort, doing papers after papers, zoom into areas/topics whereby they are not so good in and etc. just hoping to get that addtional 1-2 marks to bring up the T-score.....How about we look at the issue at another angle: schools hv bn unreasonably stressing our children out by setting standards higher than MOE original intention.
Now the children are better prepared by schools, so not challenging anymore when sitting for MOE set paper. -
Am I right to say that if all papers r easy, then the mean marks will be higher & std deviation will be smaller. Hence, T-score will drop tremendously, such that the top scorers may just be in the 260 range, unlike previous years, itβs 275 and above considered excellent. Then the cop to enter any school will be much lower, which will benefit both current year & next year P6 pupils?

Now only test what is taught, so consider happy ending or not? So Schs can start to dumb down a bit since no need to set such high standard paper?
Jennifer, I am with you on this one! :hi5:Jennifer:

funnydaddy:
.what do you think will happen? The top scocer will not be singaporean....thats for sure. Make sense ?
I belong to the group who do not give a hoot what nationality the top scorer will be
This is just PSLE. -
Jennifer:
I agree with Jennifer on this. It doesn't matter to me too.funnydaddy:

I always maintain we have a choice in everything we do.

If one wants to get that extra marks, one puts in very hard work, long hours etc at the expense of actually enjoying the process of learning, then it is one's choice. Dun complain when the paper is too easy based on one's ability.
For those pupils who are already doing well, they already hv an advantage over some other pupils - great brain power, fast learner etc. How can we now say they are now being disadvantaged? -
LeeAH:
yes, heard the same somewhere. so it us like heng or sway kind.
In ah boy's sch, there are 2 markers for each subject.
:yikes:Jennifer:
Markers never go back to marked papers to tweak anything. First hand account from marker.
Say, after marking a stack of papers and markers find that a certain answer previously marked wrong should be acceptable, and they argue over it and finally they agree yes, such-and-such-a-answer is acceptable, they will not go back to marked papers to mark it right.
Anyone knows what is SEAB practice? -
Jennifer:
What I meant is that certain group of students will do very well for MT even if it is a difficult paper (because MT is already their first language). And with the three easy papers (assuming science is easy too)...their T score will be much higher, as compared to those (majority are singaporeans) whom MT is not that good. Yes, its just PSLE but to a P6 kid, it is their very first national examination and that means alot to them. My take is that MOE will be stupid to set papers that way. I hope science will be a difficult paper tomorrow and MT is an easy one.funnydaddy:

Anyway, good conversation/discussion with you and we share our different view. -
