Learning is never late
My coming to 6yo has completed the series last year. My 3yo didn't like it so I downgraded her to 二三快读 instead. She is coping well and progress steadily. Target to complete by this year. -
can i ask… how to start the word card with lesson 1? (got the book yest ! fast !). i should go through the words then ask my child to pick the word card according to the picture? a bit confused…

I did not use the various games per suggested. All reading through the book, cards were used for daily revision. -
Reading this thread has gotten me interested. Saw that some of you started your kids very young and some early Primary. Is it applicable to across such a wide range of age? And what is the difference with 二三快读? My kids are aged 3+ and 7+, thinking if applicable it can be fun to do with them together and help motivate my 3yo son to pick up Chinese and better still don’t have to go Chinese enrichment.
And where is the best place to get the books? I saw Singaporemotherhood forum spree at $29. Anyone bought from there before? -

The author suggested some games but now I can't remember how much the following are the author's suggestions and how much I modified.
1) To help dc to remember characters that they have difficulties remembering in each chapter, I bought a plastic sheet with clear pockets that can be hung. I put the character cards in the pocket and the kids will revise till they remember and I will remove the word card. I bought the plastic sheet with clear pockets fr Daiso. It's suppose to be a calendar but the numbers are printed at the back so does not cover the character cards. The last time I saw, Daiso bought in some with synthetic cloth material types. But some of the pockets are slightly smaller than the cards. If that bothers you, you can consider other options. If your dc have no problem remembering then don't even need to think abt it.
2) While building the vocab bank, dc used the cards to make words. They will match 2 characters to form words, either from pics in the book or own.
3) I will mixed up the cards and let dc form sentences.
4) As revision, I will speed throw the cards and ask the dc to shout out the characters. Any characters not shouted out will be set aside for revision.
5) HYPY, there are HYPY at the back of the cards. Some are not correct, so you have to proof-read. Read the HYPY or fr characters to pin the HYPY.
6) Chinese scrabble / dominoes, select a card from pile, distribute cards and from there try to match and extend as many new words as possible.
I think that's about all fr me. -

The bks' Chi std is about P3, depending on the child, it can be applicable to a wide age range. It's like Peter and Jane series, my dd1 started at 5yo and ds started at 3.5 yo. There are some kids with fantastic Eng vocab at pre-school level while some are just starting at primary level. So depending on the child, the resource can be used as early as when the child is 6mos, though the cards will have to be enlarge for flashing purpose or as late as P3.Reading this thread has gotten me interested. $29 is a good buy but is it the 2nd edition? The 2nd edition is more colourful. -
Thanks SAHM_TAN. Yes it’s the new version. Trying to find out more if it is reliable before I buy, otherwise it is really a good price.

SAHM_TAN:
That was a lot of games you have modified. My DS was quite ok with the learning through pages, thus I don't bother to throw games on him. But yes, placed unfamiliar cards in clear pocket for day and night revision. Once he cleared all cards in that particular lesson, we moved on to next lesson. Upon clearing the whole book, say book 3, we revised book 2, before move on to book 4. Most characters were imprinted in his mind by then and became long term memory.micollh:

For my 3yo, she is more into visualization. I need to draw objects in white board and magnet the characters next to it. From there, I created some games to let her play. Sometimes I play marks with her. Stick all cards in white board, draw a tiny box next to it. If she is able to read out the word, she scores a 'tick'. Compute how many ticks she has and put down her scores. She likes it. I just counted she left 4 lessons to complete the series woohoo!
