Given that your child is strong in Maths…I thought the school will still groom her via META class? No…?
Maybe the GEP screening helps the school to sift out kids who are strong in either Eng and / or Math…
I assume she did not attempt the screening…but the school will still rely on her school results right… -

I'm not sure how the school works? some school I know will shift the kids based on subjects, as not all kids are powerful on 4 subjects.Given that your child is strong in Maths...I thought the school will still groom her via META class? No...?

Schools are free to decide how they want to "enrich" students who pass round 1, but not round2. GEB will provide feedback on the child’s relative strengths and weaknesses from the test results. Some schools put these kids in differentiated classes, others put them in enrichment programmes in their areas of strength. It is up to the principals.
For Nanyang, my neighbour’s dd is in meta class after passing round1. I understand that expectations are high and work is challenging, and many of the children have extra tuition to help them keep up. Her dd is struggling as she is only strong in one area.
Your daughter shouldn’t take it so much to heart. An average class in Nanyang may be a good class in another school. And in every class, the difference between the top and the bottom is not very great. Put things in perspective. She is only 9, too young to be disillusioned. -
Schools P3 results will be the primary consideration for grouping into the MA & HA classes.
As I understand, the 2nd round will select the GEPs (1%). However, MOE will also highlight those that belonged to the 2-5% to the school. NYPS may decide to put these kids into the META classes.
So P4 actually has MA, HA, META & GEP classes. META and HA kids have similar acad abilities, not much difference other than META taking HCL, SS & Art w GEP kids. -

So, every year, there’s a re-group of HA and MA classes?
i.e. there’s streaming into HA classes for P2s going to P3…and then again at P3…? And every year and so forth? -

Yes. However, there won't be much changes esp from P5 to 6.So, every year, there's a re-group of HA and MA classes?

Hello parents who have children going to P1 2014.
Wonder if school has sent out the orientation pack. We have not recieved it and planning our holiday but wasnt sure how much prep we need to do. Also, when do they normally send out?
Any updates here will be appreciated. -

We haven't received anything. I wasn't expecting anything until the orientation day on 16th Nov at TTC, when presumably we collect everything in person.Hello parents who have children going to P1 2014.

But I'd also like to hear from other parents about what to expect and when. -
You should receive a package (of forms) by post before the orientation. School is busy with PSLE and SA2, possibly receive this closer to end oct or early nov.
