      Hi VSK..

The tour i attended was at the 4th block which is reserved for oversea visitors (not the 3 blocks which the boys will be staying), but the guide told us the layout & facilities of all 4 blocks are the same. So, I managed to view all the facilities, including the bedrooms, as no one was staying there at the moment.. 😄

They just renovated the place, so all the rooms & facilities are pretty new. I also saw the Gym & Swimming Pool. Wa, like very 'shiok'' to stay there hor. No wonder DS wants to opt for boarding!

Regarding the supervised study, the guide told us the weaker pupils will be identified (maybe below a certain GPA?), and they will have to study at the Study Rooms from 7-9pm Mon-Fri (supervised). For the rest of the boys, they can choose to study in the Study Rooms or their own bedrooms, and they will not be supervised. That's where self-discipline comes in.. 😓

Not sure if you can use Edusave for Boarding costs. Maybe you can check with them, if you wish to do so?

Btw.. We cannot choose which term we want our DS to stay in boarding. The school will decide randomly, by classes. 1st term boarding is only 9 weeks, coz all Year-3 boys will be at Outward Bound Camp on the 1st week of Term-1. The other terms' boarding will be 10 weeks.
So the renovation came just in time for our boys.

I was just joking with ds that the whole family wants to bunk in with him to enjoy the air-cond coz we do not have any air cond at home. Then we have to kick his roommates out

Actually asked dh to ask if can pay using edusave but he said no chance to ask. Nvm...will find it out.

And I didn't know they actually have an option to register for boarding. I thought it was compulsory. Anyway ds is eager to try boarding. I also didn't know we cannot choose the term for boarding. Thanks for sharing again 🙂

The prize presentation for SJCHO was conducted yesterday at biopolis. RI is the top team with 54 medalists, NUSHigh is 2nd with 51 medalists (which is really impressive considering the smaller cohort size) and HCI is 3rd with only 15 medalists.

The top 3 individuals for Theory are RI pupils.

Congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to the science department for a job well done in guiding these RI boys in their chemistry pursuits!

My DS went to support at every taping of NSC this year. I shan’t reveal the final results. I’m sure many people know who won by now.

With quite small cohort every year, NUS high is a tsunami against big R giants ; great to hear that…

Have a feeling that many boys who like or were good in math & science when in primary school, changed to like humanity subjects after 1~2 years study in RI, wonder why???

I have no son in RI, but would like to comment. I think many students, both boys and girls, develop a greater interest in humanities as they grow older. The reason is likely that the appreciation of humanities requires greater maturity and critical thinking skills which develop faster in the teen years.
