[Hougang] Primary Schools
-
I would like to be updated about this school too.
This is the school closest to my mum and it is a mixed school. As I have a boy and girl, I don’t wish to go through the primary registration over again if I put them in boy/girl school.
Any parents whose kids are in HIPS?
What is my chances like to enrol my kid when my mum lives less than 1km from the school? Do I need to do PV? No other relations with the school.
Thanks! -

Even if ur mum stays <1km of HIPS, you would be considered as 1-2 km category if u make a statutory declaration.
From 2006 to 2008 trends, HIPS conducted balloting under phase 2C for people staying within 1km. So you do not stand a chance at all.
If u do PV, u will qualify under phase 2B. Based on past years trend, HIPS conducted balloting under phase 2B for ppl out of 2km. So you would get a place if u are 1-2km, if the same trend prevails. -
Hi all, FYI, just checked the HIPS website, top 2008 PSLE scorer is 273.
-
Called up HIPS to checked on the 2008 results:
Overall pass 98.6%
Express: 70.7%
% of A & A* by subject
English - 44.8%
Math - 51.2%
Chinese - 80.9%
Science - 48.3% -
Hi Luanee,
I am a little confused.
Are you saying that even I become a PV, I am not guarantee a place as I still have to ballot? How can I access to past year records to see how many people ballot under phrase 2B?
Thanks once again. -
Hi Hao,
Thanks for your update… 273 is considered high right?
I like the school bcos of higher chinese. So the students fare well in chinese or do you think bcos the kids are strong in chinese in the 1st place as a previous thread mentioned about HG being old estate and tends to have more mandarin speaking families? -

Read this for http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/singapore-primary-1-registration-school-balloting-history.

And yuh, considering that the highest nation-wide score is 287, 273 is a very good score. But it doesn't let the school make it to the \"honor list\" of having students scoring 275 and above. -

Yes, momresource, u are not guranteed a place even if u PV, all depends on number of places available vs number of applicants. You are only given priority to register in an earlier phase if u PV vs if u don't. Note that both PVs and grassroot leaders qualify under the same phase (2B).
I know alot of ppl are confused about this, they thought that all PVs are guaranteed a place, which is not true. Thus best is to check the past historical trend to gauge the situation.
For HIPS, all PVs get a place under phase 2B in year 2006. However for 2007 and 2008, the number of applicants exceed the number of vacancies under phase 2B. Hence priority was given to those staying within 1km first. Next they allocate places to those staying 1-2km away and the final remaining places were balloted among those staying out of 2km.
For 2007 there were 87 applicants vying for 73 places and for 2008 there were 64 applicants vying for 46 places. Note all these include those staying within 1km and 1-2km as well. You may wish to contact the school directly to find out how many were actually out of 2km and participated in the balloting.
Hopes this clarifies. Of course the situation may differ for subsequent years. This is just a gauge on whether u should do PV + move within 1km, which would certainly boost your chances. -
Hello Luanee,
Thanks for your thorough explanation.
I am staying out of 2km but my mum is staying withing 1km.
If I am PV, does it mean that I will be in phrase 2B in 1-2km? -

Yes u are right. You would need to make a statutory declaration first then u can register under ur mum's address and qualify under the 1-2km category.Hello Luanee,
