My younger one is in P4 and will go for this Oct NJC school tour. Next year we will go for NUS, RI & HCI open house. I am reluctance to go for Sap School like RV, DHS, HCI cause hear that Chinese literature is really difficult. Although my elder boy got an 'A', I know he will still be struggling with it. He will not be able to compete with China students on this language and he need the time to revise others new subject.

Not sure if u r aware, though NJC is not a SAP sch, all year 1 and year 2 students take Higher Mother Tongue which is a compulsory subject. We were told by the school that at end of year 2, those who are really very weak in the HMT would be offered MT, not HMT.

Hi, there is an open house this coming October, it's sort of a school tour. I intend to sign up for my ds who is now in P5. Their registration did not indicate which level so I had call up the school to find out and they said its mostly for the P6 student.


I'm not sure if its advisable to go or wait for next year. May I know any parents still sign up for their child who is in P5 as I really like my ds and even me to know more abt this sch to prepare him for next year. Thanks.

You should start the school tours in P5, since you'll find that many of the top school's tour dates clash directly with each other (don't think NJC is one of them). E.g. HCl's tour tend to clash with RI. Also you'll still have time to motivate your child to get into their dream school.

Hi, thanks for yr advice and Angel88 too. I have registered for the school tour. Never expect that I would be on this DSA treadmill so soon. But this is the best way to know what the school offer and how my ds can fit in.

Btw, just to know did you all parents actually 'train' your child up to prepare them for DSA or just leave it to them.

Hi, my DS is in P6 and got CO from NJ for his DSA. I did "train" him for the interview section of the DSA. We went through possible Q&As as my son tends to give single-word answers every time when he’s with strangers.

Agree it helps when parents have mock interviews the kids. But still must get through HAST/GAT before reaching the interview stage.

Agree - my DS, now in JH2, also got in thru DSA. The entrance exams play a big part. by the time NJC calls for round 2, not many left...

Yap, also feel that I have to go through some mock interviews with my ds, he is not that outspoken.


Btw, to the mummies whose dd/ds that got into NJC thru DSA, may I know how does your child rate the HAST/GAT exam. Sorry, I really have no idea what kind of exam it is, is it the same as what the primary school set their exam paper or its mostly base on IQ or others.

Ds went for 2 HAST and 1GAT. He rated njc HAST the most difficult of the 3. The English component was very tough. When he was rejected by the school whose test he thought was the easiest among the 3, we thought he wouldn’t stand a chance with njc. But interestingly he got a co with njc.

Njc HAST consists of abstract reasoning, English, math and science.
