Power poses? Karate kicks, dancing.. What'll this gestures generates gd feeling of power infact it is proven that any activity after these moves is attempted with positivity. Study and spot yr child's self motivation and encourage them.

I'm guessing that there could be some changes regarding tuitions coming up as there seems to be so much discussions going on, especially in the MSM.


I'm taking thing at a time, thinking about the coming SA2 first. I told my ds that he has to start his engine early, during the Nov/Dec holidays. But I know deep inside my heart that this is an uphill task, knowing that how not hardworking my ds is and how lazy his parents are now, especially after coming to 5years of coaching, arguing and fighting, we are all getting fatigue. I can't wait for everything to be over SOON.... haiz...

I told him stop arguing during study time. its a wast of time and distract from studies. He doesn't want to go tuition for next year.

My ds is super argumentative, even when we show him the answers coupled with numerous explanations, he is still not convinced and insists that his answer is correct. :slapshead:

I empathise your situation. From P4 onwards my son also argue that his answer is correct. P5 onwards I let go. 2014 is the difficult year for us. He thinks that I unnessarily torture him.His school practise enough for him.no need to do extra.
My problem is convince him to study. After explain many times he will ask the same qn. Why need to study? Its makes me fedup.He is arguing for everything. ex: I told exercise boost your energy.He can’t agree. I have to proof.

If it's just because he's very antagonistic and rebellious, then it's really hard. It may help to give him a bit more leeway to organise his own schedule and decide what to do and when? If he is really the kind who needs proofs, then it's actually a good trait. It shows that he's thinking, and it will stand him in good stead later on. It's bothersome for you now, but if you can answer at least some of his questions, it will help.

Next year will be uphill battle; DS is aiming to get good results and to put njc, chs and anderson as part of six S1 selection . First he has to clear SA2 this month and determine his results.

hi - would like to solicit options for improving english composition. in my view, ds is weak in it although he reads a lot. ds compositions just lack the cutting edge and the sentence, paragraph structures are not up to par. we agreed to let him handle this p5 sa2 on his own and decide when the results are out. i’m not hopeful and i’m starting to collate options. any recommendations? books? tuition?

From what I have heard, tweens and teens actually respond well to the setting of clear boundaries. Apparently it actually reduces the internal stress they are going through. I tried it and from what I can see DS 1 is less stressed because he clearly knows what he can do and what he cannot. Just don't expect any gratitude from them


As for English Compo...multi-pronged approach?
1) Parent coaching - get him/her to write compos regularly and you correct the mistakes (parent must be good in English and er...patient teacher)
2) Tuition - must admit I have seen good results from kids who went to Learning Lab...but there are others you can try
3) Model essay reading - there's a ton of them around - choose a couple of good ones,read with your child and highlight the good parts.
One thing - it takes a lot of time to develop a good writer - it's not over a few days or weeks ...maybe not even a few months. Probably closer to a year of consistent work....just nice for PSLE eh? :boogie:
