LETTERLAND PHONIC vs JOLLY PHONIC

Can anyone share what is differences for Letterland Phonic & Jolly Phonic? or experiences on these 2 ?

Which is better for 3 yrs old kid ? Intend to buy some materials to teach at home.

I’ve used both. pretty expensive. I baught once upon a time from letter land(VHS) then switch to Jphonics. the JPguide book is good you can use many activities n photocopiable pages. I got it from september21 in tpayo.
guide along is enough for you to teach. dvds available in nlb. get them first if you are satisfied with the pro. then buy. some books also there. try youtube also.

How much did you pay for the guidebook? DS1's school is using Jolly Phonics. I'm thinking about buying the guidebook, so I can supplement/reinforce at home.

To be honest, i wouldn't want to compare dear.


They are BOTH equally good! And i've taught using both.

Effectiveness of the methods rely solely on the passion of the facilitator
and how creatively the lessons can be carried out with the children. Jolly
Phonics encourages children to remember their letter sounds using fun
and body gestures/movements. Good for active children, cos they get to
act out the sounds. They are also story based. They have from big books,
to tracing books for early learners and they also have their own readers
to supplement reading practice. Jolly Phonics has its own DVD to engage
children in story whilst introducing letter sounds. They do have their own
software recently where children get to play games to reinforce what they
have learnt. If i'm not mistaken there are also worksheets that can be
printed off the programme as well.

As for Letterland, the characters come alive in stories, songs, rhymes
and games. From wall friezes and letter cards for hands-on learning and
if you're game, u may consider purchasing the blackline masters
(photocopiable) wksheets for yourself. Both products do not come cheap,
but if you're planning to go all the way with teaching your own it will cost
less than sending them to enrichment classes... & U get to keep all the
stuff for your next child that comes along. Letterland offers a wide
range of products especially audio CDs to help children learn letter sounds
by listening to fun and catchy songs. Their story books are designed for
children to look for letter sounds in words and also from their beautifully
designed illustrations that can easily capture the interest of young learners.

DS1's school is using Jolly Phonics. I'm thinking about buying the guidebook, so I can supplement/reinforce at home.

The school might also be using the guidebook for the children, so it would be
good to find out from the school first before you purchase, mummy of 2. You

They also have seasonal workshops for when the speaker is in town if
you're keen to learn more about the Jolly Programme. This programme
is used widely in many international schools. I had the pleasure of personally
sitting in Chatsworth International to watch lessons in progress. With highly
motivated teachers like that, i'm sure it's fun to learn anything there!

Another forum user friend of ours (chamonix)
bought her guide book from Popular @ Bras Basah
if i remember correctly and i also remember a book
store at Bukit Timah shopping centre or was it Beauty
World (Yikes!) sells guide books too. And they have diff
ranges too. Like Fitzeroy readers and stuff as well.
But i cannot confirm the book store is still around though..
I used to get stuff for the centres there as well.
