:skeptical: :skeptical: So we just finished 2 sessions at Clay cove (the parent/child one), however it wasn’t an entirely pleasant experience though. Maybe expectations were too high going in coz I felt they were downright rude at times. The first session, we were 10mins early but were curtly told to return at the allotted time coz it was their lunchtime (while I was miffed, it’s the service standard expected from staff when owners aren’t around)


And maybe because I declared their condition from the beginning that they were quite fierce towards my boys from the get go. Unnecessary given its supposed to be a fun activity and not tuition class. One of the lady owners took over 2nd session spoke in mandarin to me (so that my kids couldn’t understand) that she wouldn’t be able accept my younger boy if we wanted to continue with the individual sessions as they couldn’t handle his wandering.

Who would want to continue after hearing that? :gloomy: It’s not exactly a cheap activity either. :moneyflies:

That said: they were quite accommodating when we requested creating clay animals instead of the cup/saucer combo. It was more important that my boys had a good time modelling and painting the clay which they did. No regrets going through this experience, just wouldn’t recommend this place for kids with more severe ASD like mine.

hi all. my son was diagnosed with aspergers last year, and since then we have been signing him up for social skills lessons, OT, martial arts etc. The intervention, with God's will, has helped him so much, to the point that I wondered whether the diagnosis was even correct in the 1st place. Maybe he's just a late developer, I thought. Next year he's going to pri 1 in a mainstream school and I asked his psychologist what are the ramifications of telling the school his diagnosis. She said once it's been registered, he will get light duties for NS and he won't be able to obtain scholarships (that to me sounds very weird.) Then I asked if i should get him rediagnosed. She said his is mild, but he clearly has ASD. My heart kinda broke a bit.

Anyways my point is I guess you're right slmkhoo.. its not a cure, its coping.

Just curious, but what 'registration' was she referring to? Does she just mean that it goes on his record with school/MOE? Glad your son is coping better now.

Yup goes on record with MOE. I had his diagnosis done by a pte clinic so apparently its still not on his record yet.

Why can't ASD kids qualify for scholarships? That's discrimination. :siao:

talking about keeping record about a child’s autistic condition -

when a child grow up to say to 18 or 21 years old, is it possible or anyway to ask KK hospital to erase past medical history that child is autistic ?

because have a relative whose daughter is mild autistic.
but she able to talk, coping ok in Mainstream.
in fact in school, nobody know she is autistic.
She can greet people, "Hi auntie / Teacher, how are you today ?"

my relative don’t want KK hospital to keep medical record.
because afraid that next time when she grow up apply for job, this record may become a stumbling block.

I would like to know if any ASD parent can recomment any PD who is good in ASD kid in Hougang/Serangoon area? My DD cant take any oral medicine due to her SPD.

Also, can anyone please share with more about biomed and where do I find the detox supplements? We have done a Hair Tissue Mineral Test and got some supplements, but I would like to go through a detox first.

Actually there are pros and cons of declaring. We want our son to be better supported in school by the AEDs in school, hence that is why we declare.

Yes, esp for boys, I think declaration at NS is a big consideration. Esp in an environment where recruit will be punished for doing the wrong stuff, not following etc. I would prefer to declare to avoid such misunderstanding.

But of cos, by then my boy will be bigger, hence will discuss with him about that.

However, if our kids exempted from taking Chinese, it will be reflected on PSLE, OLevels and A levels certs. During job employment, if HR / Employer pay attention, they might question why our kid didnt take any chinese paper. From there, they might know.

Otherwise,its really up to individual to declare during employment most of the times.

As I understand it, once its in your records it remains in the records. Kinda like a health condition, like asthma. So if u apply for civil service, the records remain.

This is the part I feel worried. My child is exempted from MT and is given extra time during national exams. So, the results slip will be annotated with \"special exam arrangements\", something to that effect.

Wonder how will that affect future job prospects.
