Hello Kancheongpapa, am glad you managed to get the Open House date. For a relaxing view of the lake after touring the School, walk to the end of the Concourse on the right facing the School, you will get to see the fishes swimming freely and many a time, tortoises swimming out of the water, resting on the built-in lamps catching a glimpse of the surrounding. Very entertaining for some of us 🙂 Just a few days back, many other schools like, TKPS, TMPS, GPS, Red Swastika, TMSS, NASS etc etc joined CCHMS in celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival. There was a whole stretch of Fun-filled activities like Beans Art, Lantern Decorations, Balloon Sculpturing, Origami, Mooncake-making demo, mooncake-tasting and other activities.. The Sec ones will be invited to join in the fun. It will be your child's turn next year, cheers!

Seems to me the traditional chinese-based schools place a lot of emphasis on festivals like moon-cake festivals and CNY. Good to know the ways of such celebrations especially with the onslaught of modern events such as the recently concluded F1 motor-race. Also, I found the theme in some schools to be too modern or hip-hop. Is this their way of glossing over the lack of academic achievements ? I hope I am not too biased.

Anyway, I have been on a steep learning curve since the days I started to fret over my daughter's DSA to CCHM and of course the upcoming PSLE exams. And she has 3 younger siblings for me to lose my sleep over their academic results for the next few years. Just press on ! Ha !

Hi there ! My DD managed to DSAed to CCHM through the sports section : basketball. What they are looking for is for your DD to be in the team that come up tops in the zonal and/or national competition. That is followed by the selection trials. The coach and his team did a pretty comprehensive assessment of each individual players so it is no guarantee that if you are in the championship team, you are selected hands down. After that if your DD clear, she will be invited to the selection interview.

Overall, CCHM adopts a very personal approach in the DSA process. You will receive calls from the coach and members of his team, from which you can also discuss with them on the \"burning\" issues. I must say this is miles better that some secondary schools which inform your DD selection trials through internet.

Hope this answer your queries. Cheers !

              HI

my ds will be going to sec 1 next year and i am starting to "research" on the schools i have in mind…
I am attracted to Chung Cheng Main because the students seem to be very disciplined and obedient kind… however, i am a bit concerned after reading earlier posts about the school being too chinese. my ds did say he would prefer to go to a school that is more "english"… would like to hear from parents with kids in the school, do your kids converse in mandarin with their classmates most of the time? also, what is the English std like? like one of the posters mentioned, it is impt to be good in English as well since almost all subjects r taught in english…

              tia

                Hi Octopusmum,

I just asked my child, the class converse with one another in English!!!.

Personally, I think both their English and Chinese standards are good.

Most of their students are quite disciplined, a few black sheep maybe 😄

                    :rahrah: Hello Octupusmum,

My child is in Sec 1 this year. I won't say competitive, but they do compare marks with their classmates hahaha, rather normal I guess. In the beginning of the year, your child may need some adjustments, which is from Pri to Sec, the transition period. After a month or so, everything will be fine 🙂 A few mummies I know of, asked me why I did not choose AHS which is really near my place as my child's result would surely have secured a place but both my child and I preferred CCHMS upon comparison during open house, so we put it as our first choice. In fact we filled in 5 choices only instead of 6 choices, cos our hearts are with CCHMS.. My child is happy with the Sch, as a parent I am happy too. Hope this helps :rahrah:
