hi. what ICR teach at Little bear? think should be like play group . Their phonics teach at preliminary reading programme (PRG). My son is 5yrs. Early this year, I enrolled him at ICR - PRG. That time he only can recognized Letter A-z but not the sound. After 2 term, he manage to master letter sound and promote to blending sound at 3rd term. But I feel the improvement and result is slow so decided to change. If your DD is 4 yrs old, at start learn letter sound. just curious why they not suggest your DD to PRG level. She able to recognize letter when assessment ?
Yes, no phonic is taught at Little Bears Club. When I first enrol, the staff told me that there will be assessment again after a few lesson and my DD maybe able to promote. In the end they only do the promotion assessment at the end of each term
ICR told me that they will teach single letter sounds at the next level (Thinking & Creative Skill). They will teach blending at PRG. My DD is able to recognise 80% of the letter during assessment. I have asked for another promotion assessment since now the CCK centre will be handled by Headquarter. Have you decided where to enrol your son? -

Great start! Enjoy the cuddling time with your little ones at the same time
Thanks a lot for your sharing. I have started to read 2 - 4 storybooks every night to DD since one month ago and also letter tracing. I am not confident in doing the phonic coaching by myself as worried my pronunciation is wrong. Hence will prefer to leave this to the expert.
Will appreciate if anyone can share which phonic centre your kids have attended. TIA
If possible, slowly increase the books quantity that you read to her. My DD has a habit to read almost every day & night, one book after another, on her own. She has superb memory that she can literally read aloud books that we had read to her before. Our one seating is more than 20 books, if plus Chinese books, it can easily hit 50 books. She is currently with ex-ICR.

Tks a lot for your sharing. Mrs Sam is really very good , she definitely ensure her student result and give extra lesson without request parent pay extra. But, she no longer teaching now. Just dun know how the teacher now and the result. My boy attended the program a number of years back . I think it was 50 lessons. Cost is less $50 per lesson at that time . If no good , mrs Sam will ask the child to repeat the course without additional charge . I still remembered my boy need to go back for remedial lesson on Sunday to do the correction. Lesson time normally exceeded 2 hours . I opted for the intensive course.if i remembered correctly , twice a week . I see result by 6 months. For Mrs Sam, she want to see the result in the child since she is committed to the parent on the result . No giving up half way .
If the objective is to ensure the child to be able to master phonic within a period of time , then need to go for intensive course. Parent need to be involved too . Just merely depend on the weekly lesson from any service provider without involvement of parent to reinforce n practice at home will not be able to see remarkable result . It will take a while to see the result .
My girl at end of k1 , the childcare teacher feedback she was not able to read a number of sight words. She performed averagely. So I \" digged \" out the phonic material and coached her almost everyday . Within 3 months , the result is remarkable . Suddenly she is able to encode n decode words effortlessly . She started to read chapter books n even attempted to read Harry Porter . She becomes a bookworm . At P2 now, she reads a lot eg. Literature like Jane Erye , pride n prejudice , Sherlock holmes, shakespeare play , horrible science series etc. Her English result is almost close to full mark most of the time without any preparation or revision. I don't prepare her for exam . She is on her own . So reading books do help a lot .
Hope the above sharing will help. -
lovinglife, thanks for the encouragement!

My son just turn 2 years old. He is able to recognize & read out the 26 capital & small letter alphabets, as well as all the single phonic sounds. He can read some simple words (v limited vocabulary) from his favourite books (Eric Carle & Dr Seuss).
Besides letting him watch ipad & read to him everyday, we have no idea how to teach phonics at all, especially blending. My son is in his own comfort zone. Besides his favourite old books, we tried to introduce oxford reading series/ Peter & Jane but he doesnt like.
We called the RC, but their basic phonic class is for 4 years old & above. Any recommendation for cheap & affordable classes suitable for his age? please donโt recommend GUG/ zoophonics. My son finds it boring and ended up running around. Thanks -
hihi, any review of british council courses for nursery 2 kids?

At 2 years, he is too young for phonics. Just read to him and let him enjoy books. No point wasting your money sending him for phonics programme now. He is not ready. My son just turn 2 years old. Hi Mrs A Tan,
Glad you found a suitable class for your child.
I sent my girls to KLC too and they both enjoyed themselves and most importantly the creative learning is cultivated there.
Personnally, we like Tr Abby & Sarah.
Sad to say because of the distance, I have to pull them out after a year.
