HCI students seem to look at poly as an escape route. If you see the cut off points at the popular poly courses, i dont think the chances to get into the popular courses are very high esp, going purely base on results...Nebbermind:
Is that only about 10% of the S1 intake?
For this year yes. But it varies from year to year. If HCI is to push the standard higher, which is a wrong games plan, you will see more Straight Into Poly classes. -
Is the calculation of msg based on 6 subjects? What are the subjects in the lower sec? Are history and geography considered as 2 subjects or one? Thanks.

Jennifer:
NJC also not much different. Right? And I know NJC has lots of SM1 students to shore up results.
Else how does the school get to produce lustrous 'A' levels results?
Actually, nowaday, going thru the poly route isn't that bad already...there are even prestigious PSC scholarship winners from a few of the polytechnics. The number is even higher than most JCs including well-established one such as NJC. -

No doubt my elder boy is in NJC, I hv no idea about the above u hv posted. All I know is my child is happy in the school.

NJC's students are generally not too vocal in opinion.

You mean there are Straight Into Poly classes?! Sounds disturbing...A batch of highly intelligent 12yos with good PSLE scores now face the imminent fate of joining other Express and Normal kids in a poly? I'm not saying polys are no good, but conventionally, those that did well are expected to get into unis, yah?
I shudder to read stuffs like that. It's like playing \"Snakes and Ladders\" game. I accelerated from the start point to the high point cos I had a good headstart, but due to various circumstances midway, I slide down the snake to be at the same start point as the others who had a less advantageous headstart. -

Of course, I don't refer to the past. I am refering to students in recent years.

Do they win any debates competition?
Do they win many PSC scholarships? (which usually requires leadership quality and perform well during interviews which almost equate to expressing your view efficiently).
They don't perform well in any competitions that require presentation skills.
Are there outstanding leaders in recent years?
