Their test/exam questions are usually harder than O levels. Even at lower sec level the questions difficulty can already be more than that. So much so that the students will find O level ten-year-series easy.
I haven't seen any \"valid reasons\". Maybe you can share what you know?Jennifer:
Those now voicing their displeasure at HCI have their own valid reasons in doing so. Not simply becos they r more vocal than other schools' students.
That said, these are supposedly smarter students and should be stretched, which otherwise they will find the subjects too easy. The challenge is balancing how much to stretch. -

That is what I suspect. Some school students may feel happier because they are not stretched sufficiently. They can feel happier now but will sad later.

Dear Parents,
Perhaps you might want to take yr arguments to another post instead of the HCI post?
To avoid mis-info, HCI High School has a long tradition of annual project competition where the where boys from all levels compete from a long list of extra-curricular subjects like inventions, future trends, Resource Mgmt, Maths, etc.
The do get to choose their own team members. Only the Sec 1 might lose out because of unfamiliarity with new cohorts. -

My sec 1 ds enjoyed this project. I left him to work it out with his team mates (lots of last minute work but was impressed how they somehow managed to put the project together). I believe he has gained much from this experience of working with his team mates & under a teacher mentor - project management, presentation skills, independent thinking, software skills, problem solving, learning to accept feedback, rejection, disappointment etc etc. These are important life skills that can't be learnt via normal classroom lessons/ exams. Valuable! -
Thank you hairyorange and anothermom for yor clarification:)

can anyone tell me about the selection test for AEP at nygh? I understand the test will be conducted on the day they report to school. Can you tell me what is the duration of the test? Other than ask to draw, what else are they ask to do? Anyone who has taken the test can kindly share? Many tks

Appreciate advice/ recommendation from seasoned parents on purchase of textbooks & resources for my ds moving on to Sec 2 next year on the following:-
a) What text books NOT to buy as they will not be used? (History activity book -Singapore from Settlement to Nation was not used at all & it is such a waste)
b) What extra reference books/ assessment books to buy that are useful/ helpful? (Some subjects require extra reading/ practice that will greatly help in the understanding & test/exams preparation) - we were totally clueless this maiden year.
c) Any other tips/ advice for Sec 2s to be? No more honeymoon year?
Thanks!!
