          Hi,

I heard some children has learning disability in math.
Your friend might want to send him to psychologist to check.

I extract one sentence for the a link:

Dyscalculia is a mathematical disability. This causes problems with solving maths problems and understanding maths concepts.

          Another link on Math disability:

My P4 son is having very big problem on his Math. Only 2/30 for his Section C SA2 paper even with one to one tutor coaching. Very worry about him. If i am to bring to psychologist check any recommendation which hospital to bring him to? The tutor focus mainly on problem sum on him and this is the result he gets and he will have big problem next year. Does anyone has any tutor to recommand? Thanks.

                hi,

The traditional way of grilling and drilling with questions to learn maths, does not seem to be working for more and more students.

Even for those children that works with long hour of drilling, it might be killing their interest, creativity and taking away their childhood. So when looking for enrichment, parents might want to consider these factors before deciding.

No wonder, there is a book that talks about \"A-grade students are working for C-grade students in workplace\" šŸ™‚

                Just sharing my opinion..Cheers!

                  Hi Parents

Unfortunately, the reality is that successful C-grade students are the minority in Singapore due to various reasons beyond our control. And a C-grade university student is still the top half of his/her cohort.

I am an ex-teacher now private tutor because I want to actually help. If you have children who needs help in Maths(primary, lower sec level), please pm me.

Personally, I feel practice a lot may not necessary bring your child good results.

Practice smartly or even just one to two questions a day will work wonders.

By focusing on just a few questions, we can go in deep with a deeper sense of understanding. In fact, it is MORE important to understand the math concept than just to practice more and a lot.

By practicing a lot, it may demoralise the kids more because the foundation was not good in the first place.

So go for quality, not quantity.

The next two things to note is the emotional aspect of the kid.

As the child has not been doing well in the past, the negative experience that the child has (for not passing math yet) creates negative or not-so-good feelings.

It is important to help your child understands and lessen this negative feelings...then the learning will more effective. What works for us is to help the child to experience little successes. It is important as your child needs to feel good and confident enough that he can do it...and the next step is also to make this new change in your child sustainable...
