2010 P1 Registration Exercise for 2011 In-Take
-
Hi everyone,
I'm new in kiasuparents.com. My girl will be due for registration for P1 this year. I'm thinking of register her to ST Anthony's Canossian Primary School and understand that I have to go to MOE to declare my in laws as her caretaker in order to go the school near their place. Currently, my in laws are staying at around bayshore side, do I stand a chance to enrol my girl to the school? Please advise.
Thank you.

Yup, my no 2 is a girl. The only reservation to place her in DLS is the affiliation to sec sch as there is no affliation. My other option is if bro goes to CHS then she'll go to a convent sch around that area ie IJ TP or Marymount and we move there. I know logistics is gonna be tough that's why I'm still deliberating CHS.
CHS was my first choice back then for my DS under 2A2, and my DD goes to Marymount under 2C (heng, no ballot).
Only difference between us is you stay in the West, I stay all the way up North.
School bus or driving is the solution, unless you move nearer, you need to check with the school bus provider of the school.
DLS is nearer but not that near. -

Next, check the distance from your in-law's home to the sch. Bear in mind that the distance will be increased by one category in this case. For example, if they stay within 1km of the sch, they will now be classified under 1-2km instead. -

I just found out that we are also within 1km of Catholic High. Does anyone know how to do PV at Catholic High? Their website doesn't provide that info, and I have to wait till Mon to call to ask. Thanks.Hi all,
My boy was born in 2005, so it may still be early for me to ask, but I need to find out more in advance as I am not familiar with primary education here.
My husband studied in Maris Stella, so I think our boy is in 2A2 category. However, we haven't decided whether to put him in an all boy or a co-ed school. My husband who studied in boy schools for primary and secondary is relunctant in sending the kids to boy schools. He said it was boring with all boys in school and he didn't know how to interact with girls later on.
Is this even an issue with the parents who send their boys to coy schools? Should I be concerned about this? My ds is saying he wants to study with both boys and girls..... He gets along with girls quite well now, but I don't know if this will still be true when he gets a bit older.
My other options are volunteering at Ai Tong > 2km, and Kuo Chuan <1km. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot. -
@st999
When is your DS going P1.
Registrstion starts every July yearly and PV application for all schools officially close end of June each year has to minimum 1 year ahead and have to clock at least 40 hours. Before even to start PV, the school has to accept you as a PV case to case basis, that means if you skill set are badly needed by the school.
So if your DS is start P1 2011, P1 registration is July 2010 and PV registration closed June 2009.
So your case of DS 2005, should be P1 2012. P1 registration July 2011 and PV register before June 2010 or better earlier. That means you should start to get forms and talk to the school as soon as possible and get yourself accepted before end June 2010.
CH accept PV within 1km (not beyond 1km) which you qualify and since so near, why not pay them a visit. -
Thanks for all the replies.
My son will start P1 in 2012, so registratioin in 2011.
I will give CH a call to ask and maybe go down to visit. But CH is so popular that even 1km needs to ballot. I think we will probably just put ds at MSH, too risky to pull him out of MSH for balloting at CH. Then if he performs well and really wants to study at co-ed, we can try transfer after P2 or so. Thanks all. -
Hi,
Is there anyone has any idea how many P1 places will be reduced due to single session, especially those popular ones such as PEI CHUN, AI TONG etc? Many thanks! -
number of vacancies will only be known closer to the registration exercise.
It will be a joint decision between the school and MOE, taking into consideration like number of likely applicants in that area, number of places the school is able to hold, etc -
Hi, tankee,
Thanks a lot for your prompt reply!
I am just concerned those going to single session school will reduce their intakes, and thus cause the balloting more intense. I think the school should have some plan about the intakes, just the information is not revealed to outsiders...

Hi all,
Finally, I have to register my son into primary school this year for 2011 intake.
I am still considering two choices - Rulang Pri and Clementi Pri. Both choices are chosen due to the fact that they are old schs of mine and husband’s. I am staying at central west, and our caregiver, my MIL is staying at Clementi thus I have been always thinking that it will be better for my son to reg into CPS as it is nearer to my MIL’s although it is a neighbourhood sch.
But earlier, I had a chat with my husband, he said if Rulang is much more popular, then get him in, since we can arrange for sch bus to fetch him. Indeed, I will love my son to get into RPS, but he will have to spend more time traveling to get to and fro sch. Although we are still considering as ‘staying in the west’ I am afraid he may feel tired.
I have to reconsider my initial plans and do a more constructive decision. In my situation, any comments on what factors should I consider? TIA.
