Sorry I am not Augmum but I like to give my opinion. I don't think its necessary to have headstart tuition. I think your dd's classmates are a wee bit kiasu.

Sec 1 in any school be it IP or O levels is manageable as it is the transition period for students moving from Pri to Sec School, more subjects to cope n emphasis is a lot on CCA.

Why not let yr dd settle in n try out the tests etc first. Then find out where her weakness lies in n whether she can cope on her own. To me, tuition is a last resort, only when she cries for help.

Don't worry abt tuition classes being filled up unless you have a specific center in mind. I see so many tuition centers n tutors around, you will be spoilt for choice!

Good luck to yr dd n I am sure she will enjoy her Sec School life.

      😄
Hi Zbear, nice to see u here....
Yup....same thoughts on the issue of having tuition now even before the sec sch starts....
Btw, curriculum also differs in a IP sch....

Yup.....reach out for help only when there is a need to...
Sec 1 is a honeymoon period....( but still cant afford to slack thoughout the yr , ok 😉 )

Welcome ACMummy’s DD to the Dunmanian family!

Just to share my DD1 first yr in DHS.
Beginning of this yr, I wanted my DD to have tuition too, but my DD refused. She only agreed to have HCL tuition as it was her weakest subject. However, the HCL tuition only lasted for a term as she didn’t have time for it. She had many projects, homework and CCA activities that she slept about 12 midnight most of the time. I was worried initially, but it seems to be the norm after talking to her classmates. It was quite difficult for her the first few months as her bedtime was usually before 10pm during primary sch. Lack of beauty sleep made her restless. She isn’t the hardworking type, hence she will rest for 2-3 hrs after sch before she does her work. She didn’t do very well for her CA1 but term 3 onwards, she has finally adapted to IP and did well for EOY (all in Q1 or Q2 out of Q4 percentile).
As a mum, I still worry and nag, but I have learnt to let go slowly for her to be more independent and responsible for herself.

Thank you Love Clouds. I heard so much about adaptation and this makes me worried. My DD is hardworking and have done well in Primary School (hopefully for PSLE too) but she’s not independent. I guess this is part of learning and growing up and I hope she will get through her 6 years successfully.

Hi everyone. It's me again :). I bought assessment books for my DD as a form of revision in Primary school. Is this necessary when she goes to Sec school ? I remember I used to do a lot of 10 years series and I must say they helped. If there is a need to get, what assessment books are suitable for IP ?

Thanks In advance for sharing 🙂

                  Hi,

DD got a waitlist for DHS and we have take up the option.

What will be the chances like? Anyone can advise? Thanks.
