Preparation is abit over the board… parents need to know if their child is gifted and not that it is something to set a goal towards…
if your child is able to teach himself to read or able to read around 3-4 years or highly curious or display traits for a gifted child then the role of the parents is to support the child learning ability and not coach to get into a special school or stream.
GEP do support before the testing years and after if not in GEP streamed class. More parents should approach them for support.
Sample papers are good to lower anxiety or familiarise how the question should be answered or how to fill up their names, etc. Giving your child what he enjoys like puzzles or logic games.
One gifted seminar the educator said something that stick in my head…
if our nation has someone talented for Olympic games, we train them … we give them the best coach… we spend a lot of time to ensure they perfect their ability…
if swimming then a lot of time is given to coach their strokes and swim endless laps in the pool.
what do we do with gifted children??
coaching if seen like shinning an apple is fine… just bring out the best in them…
coaching to change a pear to be an apple then that will just frustrate the pear… and make him very unhappy
if our children has no ability… no matter how much coaching will not help…
I do not agree this thousand of dollars GEP coaching…this is very unethical
But I do agree, you support your child is thinking out of the box… do some puzzles, read more books, do inferences comprehension, but not pushing the child but supporting them…
Seriously, all o level students or even a level students doing their exams … they most likely did mock test or past year papers… this is acceptable…??
7 days of coaching is too much… once a week I personally feel is acceptable except personally I feel this is too much… -
Unfortunately, we assumed so that this is true for all GEP schools…
not so… so better check with school or bus company.

It's not that I don't want to stay in Singapore - I don't know where I would like to be in the future, at all. At the age of 9 (or even in secondary school as I am now), I think one is too immature and inexperienced and knows too little about herself and her future to be able to make any decision that carries any weight at all.
I do intend to leave Singapore - for university at least. Maybe the world out there will be better, maybe it will not - but I want to try, and not limit myself to a place because that is where I currently am, and that is where it would be easiest to stay. (Certainly there is a significant chance that I will return and settle here.) When I make a choice, I want it to be informed. And it will be dependent on so many factors - my experience, job availability, my partner's (if I have one) preferences and job, etc.
I view citizenship as a commitment. I see no point in relinquishing citizenship without being certain, only to change it again some years later. I do love Singapore, perhaps more so than the other countries I also identify with by birth, heritage or nationality, but I cannot say with any certainty that I will stay. I believe such sentiments are shared also by many children, Singaporean or not - half my class says they do wish to immigrate, and this is a mostly Singaporean class.
Certainly I benefited from GEP and it would be advantageous to me for there to be no nationality requirements. However, I also do understand that a government has to optimise its limited resources to further the welfare of its citizens to whom it has a duty to serve, and would understand where such a rule would be coming from if it does come to pass.
This is just my personal opinion though - please don't flame me. Nationality is certainly a very, very personal choice. And I'm still a kid, so so much can change - but that is the point, that I don't think a minor is capable of making such decisions. Scholarship holders at 18, yes; kids at 9, no. -

Received edusave 25% cert, GEP is still included?

GEP P4-P6, same as mainstream, also eligible for the Edusave Merit Bursary if u r are within the top 25% of the level, but household income must not exceed 5K, otherwise only get Certificate.
As for P5 & P6, u will be eligible for the Edusave Scholarship for Primary Schools if u r among the top 10% of students of the level. The value of the award is $350. No income criteria. It’s not easy for Gepers to get this one. For mainstream, the cohort size is bigger, eg. 10% of 400 pupils is 40, so u may not be the top 3 in class, but as long as u r top 40 of the level, u r eligible. As for gepers, the cohort size is small. Eg. If u have 2 classes of 24 pupils, 48 in total, 10% is just 4 pupils. So even if u r 2nd or 3rd in class, u may not be eligible, cos only the top 4 of the level can get the scholarship.
