Hi, does anyone have P1 English, Chinese and Maths textbooks to give away? If your child has completed primary 1 and you do not need the textbooks, I would like to get from you. Thanks!

Hi gonzo, which uniform suppliers is better - Yang Tze Jiang or Bibi & Baba? It seems the latter is slightly more ex.

        gonzo:
        Attention 2014 P1 parents:

You should try to order the books online once you get the orientation letter and buy uniforms from the supplier before orientation day to avoid crowds. It is inconvenient to try on the uniforms at the canteen during orientation. Do note that ordering books online does not guarantee accurate delivery. P1 girls will wear PE attire thrice weekly and uniform twice weekly.

White shoes with velcro straps are allowed till P2 only. No point getting trolley bags cos the girls have to climb up the steps to their classes.

Do get an A4 sized basket for the girls to put under their desks so that they can leave their books behind in school.

School holidays will start in 3rd week of Nov 2014 unike previous years where they started in end Oct.

No exams in P1 and P2 except SA2 in P2. But the girls will have bite sized tests every term for P1 and P2. The std of English in the school is higher compared to other schools. So, get your girls to read a lot and widely.

        Welcome!!

The material is slightly different for both suppliers but I personally like the latter as it is thicker.

              Hi,

Does anyone know how many gals were selected for the GEP programme 2013?
I know about 70 - 75 gals went for Round 2 but I am not sure of the results.

                Hi,

Like Meta in NYPS, is SBC in MGS almost the same.
The thread shows that the kids chosen for Meta at NYPS are borderline GEP so am I right to say that the kids chosen for SBC in MGS are also borderline GEP??
Anyone can shade some light to my confusion??

I got my DD to do the top school exam papers before the exams and it feels as though the MGS’ exams papers are always easier than the other top schools paper, maybe except English. Is that because it’s a more holistic school and emphasis is less on academic rigor? I had an ex-colleague who sent his twins - one to MGS and one to RGS. He commented that RGS seem to prepare the kids much better for PSLE than MGS. Is the academic rigor at MGS really less stringent? Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

I guess RGPS and MGS are very different schools. My friend's daughter is in RGPS and according to her, it is very academic driven and gals are very competitive. In MGS, gals are taught to share instead of compete, aiming to develop them holistically as life is more than just academic result. If you look at the PSLE result, MGS may not be the top school like RGPS but it is also a band 1 school and their PSLE result is also remarkable. I can only say my gal is less stress out and happier with her school life compared to my friend's DD who is in RGPS.
