I agree. Although I love dogs, I can't have one as my husband is allergic and I can't cope with the extra work it would create. So don't worry about not having one if you can't handle it. It would be worse for you to be even more stressed, financially strapped (keeping a pet can be expensive) and have a miserable pet into the bargain! -
I use to have dogs during childhood so I know what to expect when having a pet.

Yeah keeping a pet is a life long commitment. it’s ok and not a must for us of course. Take it easy. Especially our special kids are giving us a lot of surprise already.
What I would like to add on is, before we make up a decision about something, we can think about the PMI of it first. (Plus, Minus, and Interesting. Means the positive side and the negative side and the interesting aspect of an idea. From Six Thinking Hats.) it helps us to look at an idea from more than one view point.

This is a little random… So many pages since I left came by. I’ll read the posts when I find the time. Maybe my thoughts are already "answered" here.
Anyway, as this school yr closes, I’m starting to get nervous abt DS going to P1!
Actually I’m apprehensive abt the sch. We registered there cos it’s where I was from. But since he was three, we’ve always wanted him to be in St Andrews. Something abt the sch just draws us to it.
We didn’t try to get in there cos I looked up past year stats and know that there’s no chance of getting in even at 2B since we live >2km away.
Now, I’m wondering if there’s a wait list I should put us on… Shall have to call the sch to find out…
His graduation concert was okay. He wasn’t in two of his class items… And the PTM today went okay. But the teachers were trying to be kind. -

Is it that silly motto you see when you travel along PIE that says Where boys become men, that attracts you to St Andrews? I cringe when I brought my DS there. Along a corridor is a huge picture that says THE Laws, Thou shall love your God, Thou shall not steal, Thou shall…etc. I thought to myself What have I done?!
It is a school steep in tradition and the old bible ways. The school dictates hair cut, hairstyles (no centre parting) and even shoes (must have laces). Strict decorum and military styled modus operandi. My time, it was run by a mad man. He spots an errant boy across the building and he bellows "The devil is in you!!" Three hundred boys freeze to see who he is pointing to. If you are the unfortunate boy, it is likely you will pee in your shorts.
When I returned early this month for Orientation, I sensed nothing has changed. One either turns out freaky or a gangster. I know bec over the years, a few of such fights made it to the press. A SA boy who punched a ACS boy after a rugby match, a SA boy involved in slashing in Potong Pasir etc. In a way, its good. It taught me early in life which corridor to avoid and what to do when confronted by a bully (give him 10 cents to buy a drink, works all the time). Today I use such skills to buy my associates beer. If you plan for your son a career in loansharking, hooliganism or triads, you have come to the right place to develop him. Else he missed nothing much. I wouldn’t recommend it too if you stayed >2km. He will spin for hours in his school bus. -

Any parent care to share what they teach at EIP that is different from other normal kindergarten? I am wondering if I should enrol my kid to EIP since he is behaving and learning well at his kindergarten.

All schools accept special needs children, I guess the only difference is that SA is a church affiliated school and because is a boys school, the number of special needs kids could be higher, hence more resources to manage them. (According to studies, boys have higher risk of ASD, ADHD etc)
