SJI will move back to Malcolm in 2016. Circle line is suppose to be ready in 2016 but there was an announcement few months back that the target date has been moved back six months ie. middle 2016. Google around for news links.

I haven't been around here and will be away after result release so I hope I can contribute 2cents worth of my personal observations after my son's first year in SJI.

RMSE : I need to ask my son about whether lecture style or group interaction, how many session and how many hours because I don't know. The Humanities department organised a talk for all S1 parents at the beginning of the year and they gave us the roadmap of the RMSE education over the 4 years. The first year is focused on father-son relationship. Husband and I were impressed at least there is such a well thought-out programme. Last month, Husband attended 4hours workshop on Saturday morning which the school organised, about how to handle conflicts with your growing teens. Husband said it was time well-spent.

An impact of this programme to my son ? I cannot pinpoint that it is exactly this programme or the general culture and spirit of the school. They have a really passionate and excellent Discipline Master for S1 (ex SJI boy). Definitely my son has grown more responsible, matured and wants to be independent. He does simple housework willingly :rahrah: and negotiate with us on computer gaming time. He really enjoyed his first year and we are very glad.

1) Typical lunch hours - There is a recess between 10-10:30am but no scheduled lunch break. Lessons end 1330-1410.
2) No. of compulsory CCA to join - one, for Catholic boys +1 Catholic society

3) What would the teacher do if the student is not coping well in a particular subject? The school strongly encourage the boys to be self-driven. I haven't had any experience in this (Thank God!) but I heard from my son one of his classmates who came in via DSA and has rigorous practise sessions that he was called-in by Discipline Master. I am not sure if they called in the parents.
Two weeks before year-end exams, the school organised supervised study where boys stay in the library to self-study and teachers were there on rotation basis. This is to encourage the boy to develop self-study habits.

4) What would the teacher do if the student has issues with other classmates, like quarrel or fights? This happened in my son's class I mean, it IS a boys school ! I am not exactly sure what happened but the boys were given pink forms and parents were notified.

5) What support programmes the school has to help students who are struggling with school work ? Sec 1 is a relatively \"relaxed\" year I believe, the focus is getting used to the routine, new subjects, strongly encouraged to support their CCA and character building. There was a year-end camp just last week where the boys were at Pulau Ubin for 4 nights trekking, crossing rivers etc They were told they need to complete this camp before truly calling themselves S2. Academic wise, refer above point 3.

My DS got into the Sec 3 IB track and also the subject combination we want…so happy:)


JRLam: all sec 3 need to take chemistry with Physics or Bio if you are taking 2 science subjects.

Catholic boys must take Catholic-RMSE, non-Catholic boys can choose non-Catholic RMSE or Catholic-RMSE. My son is in non-Catholic - he said mainly they discuss about moral issues, father-son relationship. (if I remember correctly from the briefing we had, S2 is mother-son relationship :nailbite: )

my son will be taking his psle results tomorrow and SJI is one of the schools i am considering. however, i know very little about the school and unfortunately, i won’t be able to visit the school on next monday. hence, hope to find out more about the school in this forum, what is the culture like, is it very competitive and academic focused. etc

I've asked an ex-SJI boy and this is what he told me, \"The teachers is not only good, but they are amazing! Teacher are very helpful and the environment is nurturing. Basically nobody regrets going to SJI and that's the reason why our old boys association is so strong. You can take a boy out of SJI but never SJI out of the boy. Join the Lasallian family!\"

My sister has 2 doctor friends who were ex-SJI boys, her feedback on them is :\"They are very smart (brilliant) and humble\" Please encourage your son to go to SJI.

When my DS received the CO from SJI, he said he will accept the offer even it is not his #1 choice, because he has promoted SJI to be his #1. The reason he sited is that he feels that the school looks at him as a \"person\" not just numbers. During his interview he felt that the interviewers are genuinely interested in him as a person and wants to groom him to be an all-rounder. Not just what grades he can achieve. The friendly interviewers left a good impression with him

SJI may not be the top school like RI or HC, but it is also a band 1 school so in our opinion, SJI is a school we want our DS to be in.

:goodpost: I think your DS is very matured and it is great that he has made his perfect choice based on his own feelings. That is very important for the kids to be happy for their next 6 very key years. Good luck to ur DS and you.
