I know a child in Pathlight who is also diagnosed to have Dyslexia. The child attends program in Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), and the parents have to pay full fee of about $1000+ per term. Kids attending mainstream schools receive subsidy and pay half of the fee. Reason for no subsidy being that the child is in a SPED school! As if we parents like and choose our children to be of special needs! Being ASD and studying in Pathlight, forking out $420 per month is already tough enough, and still being penalized for attending a SPED school thus cannot receive subsidy at DAS?! On the other hand, those mainstream dyslexic children whose parents are probably bankers, lawyers, doctors, CEO who are earning big money get to pay half of the fee? This is absurd, right? Does that mean for those dyslexic Pathlighters should withdraw and attend mainstream schools so as to get the subsidy when attending program at DAS? If my child were to be dyslexic too, I'll choose Pathlight over DAS, as we can't afford to pay both agents, not forgetting that there are still other therapies fees to incur. Really disheartening when I learnt about this case from a mother...

LoL! Pa si buay zhao! But I recommend you be smart about it. If the state is not going to help you (much), you might as well go the SPED path and when he turns 18, claim that he will shoot friendlies when he tantrums. They might exempt him from NS!

If given opportunity how many of you guys would like to move to US? I think there are more opportunities for special need kids, any thought?

Personally, the country should be providing an appropriate education or training at NO additional cost to her citizens up to the age of 16, or even 18. This is the very least it can do for every citizen. Why should SPED be charged differently?

I believe our Special kids have a choice to join NS or not. But even if they join, they will do clerical work and no need to go IPPT.

Geez, I hope my boys can qualify for NS when the time comes and that they go through the full experience however tough. In fact if Forrest Gump is to be believed, they would make excellent soldiers coz they are regimented, routine-based and OCD. :salute:

If I am not wrong, I think there is no exemption from NS for HF ASD. And most of them will need to go through 3 months of BMT.

The ride to Tekong is inevitable. However after 3 months, maybe got chance to do clerical work.

I think people who are totally exempted are
- Very Low IQ
- Disabled
- Paralysed
- Congenital deformities

I know of people who have hole in a heart (Congenital deformities) still need to go NS. But no BMT. Just do clerical work directly.
So is really case by case basis.

Yea, my son tantrums uncontrollably. Feel free to put a 700 rounds a min Section Automatic Weapon in his hands during BMT…LoL
