Thanks Learningtobekiasu. I am trying to find out more about their 10-year Josephian Programme. I did some research but the idea still eludes me.

Re English, I thought they are using the SEED programme but apparently you should be more accurate since you just attended their orientation. They could have recently switched to STELLAR. I remember having read somewhere that most if not all primary schools will eventually be following the STELLAR programme within the next one or two yeras.

Glad to know that they pay attention to the weight of the children’s school bags.

I do get the impression that they adopt a hoslitic approach and emphasise on well-rounded education not to mention a wholesome and healthy environment that’s why I have decided to send my son there.

By the way, would you know what’s their niche in terms of CCAs? The school’s mission and vision?

yes! thats the one. i get the sense that the school offers a more holistic approach to education rather than just focus on the academics.

The Stellar programme is by MOE, to be introduced to all primary schools from next year onwards, not something that SJI has come up with. You may want to see the link for more info 🙂

And SEED is not an English programme. It's more like an overall all-rounded approach to learning.

Thanks. All the time I had thought that they are two different types of English programmes.

Does anyone know about their 10-year programme?

well, they don't have formal CCA up to pri 3. they do offer 'outsourced' program for chess, soccer and badminton... in terms of the other cca in later years they have the usual - soccer, athletics etc. the one interesting one is sailing.

the ten year program is called 'josephian talent program' but there isn't a lot of information on it. i believe in p4 they select students for the program (its their version of the gifted program, i believe). not sure if this is accurate. but there isn't a lot of information on this. also, 10 year program - subject to kids making the cut for sji secondary lah! no guarantees.

              Hi,

Students are invited to join the JTP when they have cleared their first GEP screening test.

Wow. No wonder there isn’t much info about it since only selected students are "invited". Anyway, I am not even thinking so far away because I know that entry to SJI is by merit since not much concession is given to SJIJ students. I do hope very much that my son can eventually make the mark though. I have very good impression of SJI. Y’know, when you visit their website, you’ll be greeted with their very inspiring song - very moving.

SJIJ Josephian Programme caught my attention because they mentioned that it is a 10-programme so I thought it is from P1 all the way to Sec 4 skipping PSLE and yet I observe that their P6 students still sit for PSLE.

Normally, JTP has two classes consist of 25 students each. Students who cleared the first GEP screening test will automatically join the JTP unless opt out. This year, 39 students qualified for JTP. The school will then choose the other high ability students to make up the balance.

JTP students will be taught more than main stream in Math, Science and English. This gives high ability students who do not qualify for GEP a chance.

That's not too bad an idea. Does that mean SJIJ does not band the students into what other schools called \"best class\" etc?

Also, I was told that it is compulsory that all students wear their school tie during assembly and on special occasions. That means they practically have to wear it everyday because they do have assembly everyday don't they?

if i remember correctly its ties on monday only.

as for best class - the classes are names of saints, and not numbers or alphabets. so there is no best class etc.

They do have best classes. They are named after Saints. For a particular level, the best class might be Luke and Mark. For other level, the best class might be Michael and Gabriel. Only those students in the best class know. Ties must be worn on Monday compulsory.
