The reason why mommy is anxious is because she knows time is running out. Although official holidays havd just started, if we take away the 2 weeks plus that we are going away, minus the xmas & new year moods, we left less than 3 weeks that he will want to seriously consider to get down to work, He has no tuitions and he is not going to have, so it really depends on how we manage our time.

In my opinion, I feel that your ds shld have a good holiday break this Nov/Dec n slowly build up his momentum for Sep 2014 PSLE. Sometimes, if you start too early, he may get early burnout. U need to know when is the rite time to peak.

If your ds is an average or above average, he shld do fine.

Yeah very mindful of what zbear has mentioned too...I realised that my DS was already very tired by SA2 - so we are letting him have a good break with some work in between to address his weaker areas. He seems to be quite happy so far :rahrah:

Wah KSP - I like the emoticons on your \"counting down to 2014 PSLE\" And I feel the same way too.

But let' s see if we can make 2014 PSLE a little less stressful for ourselves and our DCs - I'm going to try and switch my emotions to :boogie: :imcool: :rahrah: :celebrate: if I can! PSLE here we come!

My DD Math Paper 2 is very weak. I have one to one tutor for her but still no improvement. Next year will be taking PSLE and this will pull down her overall marks cos her other subjects are above average. Can anyone advise what to do during this school holiday. I am planning to go through all the past exam paper correction with her again. Should she continue to do with the exam paper or go for assessment book on a topic by topic revision. She's weak in all area.

If your daughter doesn't understand some particular topics, then it's best to do topic by topic until she gets it. Doing whole papers are for when she is able to cope with many topics at the same time. That's what I believe, but if a child is weak, sometimes you have to accept it. I am having a struggle with my sec school daughter at the moment where we have been doing topic by topic, but she seems to forget old stuff as soon as we teach her new stuff. It's really very exasperating, but we have accepted that if we can get her to pass, that will be a good result for her.

Do also take note of learning the types of heuristic concepts and how to identify them. For example, how do you identify if the question is \"same difference\" or \"same total\"? (The others are working backwards, guess and check, remainder concept to name a few)

And do not forget to equip your child with \"resilience\". How do your child push on when problem sums get tough? Do your child give up or do your child push on? Choosing either path will determine a drop or increase in the marks.

Research has shown that for students to do well in math, they must have this ingredient. Go watch this ted presentation and check out what your child needs first...it is not always buying more assessment books...

Another thing to take note, do spend this time to rebuild foundation...for example, what are the common questions which are always answered wrongly...are they related to misconceptions or really \"don't know\"? I suggest spend this 1 month plus to clear any doubt your child has and also do your best to master those direct questions. Non-direct questions (higher order thinking questions) will get more and more tedious in P6 and speed topics and questions will also confuse some kids. So let's clear those doubts now so that Jan is a great new start for your DC.

So to sum up, do learn:
1. types of heuristic concepts
2. skills of how to solve them (ranging from identifying to solving to self-check)
3. resilience

To actually calculate the T-score, you would need the mean and standard deviation. My dd's school provides the mean and standard deviation, so I just plonk the figures using an online T-score calculator to get a gauge of how dd stands relative to her school mates.

GEP or not, the T-score calculation is done the same way…if I am not wrong!

Not all school will provide the mean and standard deviation nowadays. It used to be printed on the result slip but now school is so hush hush even the subjects highest mark is no longer revealed! With all the unknown, how do parents know when to press the panic button?
