Swimdad, I'm not sure how far I can 'push' him to try swimming....how would I know his interest is really not in swimming. I know how to swim n naively thought I can teach him myself. Then I realised I cannot remember how I picked up swimming when I was young. He is now not afraid of jumping into the waters with his float. He will kick too, with his float but of cos...he is not moving forward much lol. His daddy is not keen to let him try as he feels he is not ready to learn swimming with a stranger yet and may not take instructions well due to his stubbornness.

Swimironkids wow...40-60laps can faint. My aim is for him to learn the proper strokes from the start. Not like me...anyhow swim also can pass. I suggested to my hb about my boy joining a club to learn and he is not keen. He prefers to get a coach n just let him learning in a public pool...whatever is cheaper ^^
Maybe you should just let him enjoy playing in the water for now and wait until he is older before your try lessons? From my observations, kids who start younger (except for the exceptional few) usually take longer to learn as they can't follow instructions as well and are less obedient and disciplined. My daughter started learning at 8yo (that was the earliest we could make it for various reasons) with a group of 5-6yo kids, and you could see the difference. She progressed beyond them in about 2mths and some of them had been learning for more than 6mths. After a long break, she is learning another stroke now at 14yo, and the instructor says that she has done in 1 lesson what a younger kid would do in 3. I don't recommend waiting till 8yo, but maybe you could wait till he's 5yo? It doesn't mean that if he learns to swim earlier he will be a better swimmer.

Thanks for your advice! Ideally, I would have started him at 3yo but my husband insisted he is not ready and would rather not waste money on swimming lessons if the coach has to spend 80% of the time coaxing rather than coaching. I didn't consider that and thought if we don't even let him try it out, how would we know if he is 'ready' or not...But yes, even thou he is turning 4 in a couple of months, he seems to be quite resistant to new activities

            Hihi,

Seems like tis thread quite dead.
I would like ALL to recommend me for coaches tat are doing competitive swimming.
My DS gg p2 n currently in competitive swim squad. But due to relocation n his new coach schedule, it proved to be too challenging for us. Hv chk wif CSC n unfortunately they only accept club members.
Would like all to reccomend / gv advise on coaches residing in north east eg: tampines ,paris ris ,east coast.
            Many thanks!

For competitive swimming, it is better to join a swim club as it provides a more structured approach, proper facilities, and opportunities for swim meets.

There is a Chinese lady coach at Katong swimming complex.

I think she was formerly coach of CsC or SsC. Her club is Olympia Swimming club.
She has several swimmers from Tao Nan Sch. Around 7/8 yo.

                        hi

Any one put their kids in Speedi Swim? I would like to have some feedback. My girl is in P2 this year and going to P3, She is at cross training stage ie stage before going to competitive level. We are seriously considering changing swim school for her as Speedi Swim is closer to my place.

Any shutter or paid transport to ferry the children.

Generally how is the training? please do share your experience if you have kids there. The cost is double of what we are paying now and we want to be sure that this is the right move.

                        Thank you.
