Reach home around 7.30 pm
The traffic jam at mount Sinai during peak hour 6.30 pm, is very bad.
(Worse than hillcrest). The road is narrow. Anyway, they let the school buses depart school compound first, before let private cars come in fetch kids home.
Timed before.
Even if self drive, need close to an hour to reach home.
Peak hour pan island expressway also bad jam.
This year (2013), when Henry park primary school still occupying mount Sinai premises, I did a test run first. See take how long reach home.
Mount Sinai is good for parents staying nearby ghim moh, holland, Dover, west coast, etc. for me to be honest, I can’t wait for 2 years (2014 and 2015) to be over.
I expect first 3 days reach home late, when school re-open.
Everybody is new to school bus route. -
Yeah…I went to Mt.Sinai and I HAD A HARD TIME WALKING FROM THE BUS-STOP TO RGPS.I took at least 15 min to walk and it might be a bit scary for pupils who attend the morning session by walking because around the neighbourhood are just houses and condos. There are so many small roads and they didn’t even put signs that can guide us to RGPS.I also knew that Mt.Sinai is gonna be more jam than Hillcrest because the roads are extremely small and worse of all…HENRY PARK IS QUITE NEAR OUR SCH.It means that we’ll have double the number of school buses and thus, making it more jam.

Hello
I m at shelford road
Right nw I m stil undecided whether to let my daughter take e school bus, or to pick her up myself. Urgh…
Any advice from you guys (and gals) will be appreciated. TIA! -
So the kids are allocated based on their performance in p4 classes and not p3 right?
If yes, can share which are the better classes and so forth. -

I am also staying at shelford road. Which class is your dd in? Maybe we can consider car pool in the future. We are trying out to send and pick ourselves to assess the situation before considering school bus. Stay in touch! -

Kids are allocated P4 classes based on P3 end year results. But hearsay from a friend, there is some subtle 'banding' from P2 to P3. During her dd's time (her dd has since graduated), the girls seemed to be banded together according to Math results. Also, in order to take HCL in P3, the girls' P2 CL end year results must be among the top 20%.So the kids are allocated based on their performance in p4 classes and not p3 right?
If yes, can share which are the better classes and so forth. -
Yes, maybe there are changes.
also heard about this "subtle" banding, from p2 entering p3.
My friend’s daughter p2 this year (2013)
She said many of her girl’s classmates are competitive.
they had done well -
going 2014 p3 "band 1" class. -
I just received a call from the school bus driver. I don’t stay at shelford area, but a few bus stops away (in between 6th Ave and KAP). Bus driver says will reach back home at about 6.40pm. School ends at 6.30pm, to be back home within 10min, I think sounds quite good. Sending dd daily is not really much of an option coz I’m a FTWM, although hubby wants to try sending and picking her up. My thoughts are, to pick dd up from school, I think she would probably end up reaching home around 6.55pm, 7pm? coz the sch buses have to exit the premises first before the private vehicles can enter, right?

Reach home around 6.40 pm is possible -
if we’re talking about existing location, from hillcrest.
But from mount Sinai (2014 and 2015) -
earliest time to reach your house around duchess avenue, is around 7 pm.
6.30 pm - is school dismissal time.
The fleet of long school buses plus all the mini van(s) school buses to remote areas - must leave the school compound by 6.45 pm, thereabout.
Hopefully, all the p1 and p2 students co-operate well, can hop onto their school bus, punctually & correctly. not hop onto the wrong school bus number. This happened before.
every school bus bears a number.
if there is any delay, school bus can’t leave by 6.45 pm; searching for missing student(s) on board. Then All the private cars queuing behind, waiting to fetch their daughters home, will also be held up. Because that road from mount Sinai leading out to the main holland road, is very narrow. Vehicles have to move out slowly in sequence, like a snail one by one, to main holland road.
Besides, around 6.30 pm -
P1 and p2 pupils from Henry park primary (hpps) very nearby, also going home, same time. There will be traffic congestion from these 2 schools, exiting towards holland road.
Hpps 2014 (p1 and p2) pupils also studying afternoon session, same as our p1 and p2.
Then once cars move out onto holland road, because is peak hour, the expressway also got traffic jam.
Btw, did you ask your driver whether your school bus is big one or is it a small mini van ?
