I had changed 5 times in a year. 1st to 4th were all Filipino. 5th is from Indo.

To me, Filipino are smarter, when you scold them they will give you black face, stubborn and even can talk back to you.

As for Indo, they are more humble. But have temper, they also will give you black face and sometime talk back to you.

Employ a maid is all by luck. Very hard to have a good maid. Think my luck is only so so. F.Y.I, all the maids I choose is not ex-Sin, ONLY the 3rd one ex-hkk.

very true, it’s really a matter of luck.

Luckily, the ones I’ve employed don’t give me black face (ok, once in a while they do). If they do that in the beginning, I don’t think they are receptive to instructions…how to keep?

          shine_fs,

Did you pay alot to change 5 maids?

Hquek, ya really depends on luck! Guess I really run out of luck.

After thinking through, think I will wait for after CNY to reselect. But right now, I believe its part of my maid’s character that she’s simply "bo chap". She also can’t handle kids and don’t know how to play with my gal. Even after agency told her the consequences of returning her, she has improved slightly. I think its very difficult for me to keep her. I will just to take the risk to find another one. This maid also knows that I have a CCTV at home. She also "bo chap" so I firmly believe its her character. Since its her character, I don’t think she can change much. Not suitable to work in Singapore. Wasting everyone’s resources and time and money.

Tell you my story for all my maids…

Last year around this timing I employed 1st maid. When she was here the 1 week, already planing to transfer to another employer. Some maids are very smart, they will agree to work with you just because they want to get out of their country. When they are here they will try to transfer. So, the 2nd week she had a quarrelled with my mum and asked to go back to maid agency. That night she was sent back to maid agency. I took back all the ang bao money which my relative gave her. Of cos she was not happy lah…but too bad.

2nd maid…after my confinement, she was afraid to take care of my new born baby. So she asked for transfer. When I interviewed she told me take care new born baby b4 but…

3rd maid far from manila. She doesn’t understand simple English when she was here. But when I interviewed her thru phone she replied me very well. So, I suspected the person on the phone was not her. She worked for me around 2 to 3 mths and I asked for transfer. Cos she can’t even communicate to my elder son.

4th maid was ex-hkk, well educated. She is a degree holder and I employed her. She was the most headached maid compare to the rest. She will raised her voice, stared at you and very stubborn. I endured for 4 mths and can’t stand her and finally transfered her.

All the maids’ age are around 28 to 33 yrs old.

So, now I have the Indo maid, age 24 yrs old this year. I dote her, but when she forget or did wrong thing I will scold her. Her English is poor. I told myself for Indo maid, they are very slow and need 6 mths to train.

To me, I have lower my expectation.

Hi hquek and lovekidsverymuch and Andaiz, just now I went to the maid agency to ask for replacement. Found 1 suitable indonesian maid. 30 years old ex-S'pore 18 years ago and ex-Saudia arabia 3 years ago. Asking for $360 salary. She's from Indramayu (west Java). Agency told me if change I need to top up because Indonesian maids these days have high loan. I also need to pay levy for 21 days for the current maid to be stationed at their office to be transferred out to new employer. After these 21 days if maid still not takers, Agency will bear the levy.

In total, the new replacement will cost me another $850 more. New maid salary also higher. Current one I pay $340 without off. This new one $360 without off. My mom ask me 2 questions. First, language will be a huge problem. Second, what are you gonna do if she don't turn out better than this one?? Aiyo!! I tell you!! I feel so sad!!
peapot, it's never easy changing a maid. If this is ex-SG and ex-Saudi, she'd probably be quite seasoned and hopefully a bit more attuned to life as a maid.

To think that she's okay with no days off is quite something. :? Did you lay down rules on WHAT she can't have? And is there a catch?

DO you know her work history? 18 years and 3 years...what happened in between?

Actually, I can accept if maids are slow and do not understand you. What I cannot stand is after you tell them many times the same thing, they still don’t change. Plus also they pretend not to understand you.

Andaiz, I can’t interview her. I m not sure what’s the employment history in between. I was actually thinking of changing a new maid just before CNY because CNY I m forced to take leave. So, why waste leave and I don’t have much visiting anyway. But like what you guys say, I shouldn’t rush into it. But agency says to wait till after CNY for more bio-data. Sigh!!

                    Hi peapot

I’m new here but have been reading on this thread…I understand your situation. It’s all a matter of luck…my current maid of seven months had been mentally draining. But she’s been making slow and gradual progress.
It’s hard to find a good one like my previous maid who had gone back to get married.
Maybe you should empahise to the agent about your expectations to get a new one. In the meantime, juz monior this current one.

                      Hi Peapot,

I just went maid agencies at Katong & Bt Timah. From one of the agent that told me if we have finish the maid loan we can decides get an air ticket back to her country or send it back to the agent for her transfer.

Maybe you shouild work out the Levy + Food & Lodgings is it more than an air ticket?
                      :!:

As for maid levy, what i know is that your duty to pay for the levy ceases once she is transferred to a new employer.
$850 is for the cost of the extra few months that the maid goes without pay, as most of it is incorporated in her loan.
Ex- s'pore is not a bad idea, as most should be quite conversant in english. My 1st maid was ex- malaysia, the 2nd and 3rd ex- spore (both spoke good english), 4th and present one is ex- malaysia.
                        All have been good.
                        Good luck to you!
